We are absolutely atrocious, hopefully we can get a young bat with some power for Lopez
I dont think anybody wants to give up young power for an old RP.

Who's a rental to boot.
Need to trade: Pence, Timmy, Lopez, Romo and Scutaro.
Bring the kids up, no reason to not blow this thing up.

No reason? How about paying customers? We have the longest current sellout streak in baseball, and just won the WS. Im all for selling off a couple players for the right package of prospects, but "blowing the team up" is ridiculous and short-sighted.
The Giants would essentially be flipping both middle fingers at the fans, who have been selling out for years now.
I dont think we trade Lincecum. We have no replacement. Were also about to get even thinner at SP this offseason, and trading him away will break trust. He probably wont be interested in coming back then.
Romo isnt going to get us as much as hes worth, so theres no point there. Scutaro and Lopez are both old, have crap contracts, and wouldnt get us much of anything either.
Pence is the only guy I could see being worth it. But then now we have empty holes at LF AND RF next year?
We just gave Posey and Cain HUGE contracts. We arent going to be interested in rebuilding for half of those deals.
Trade Pence if the return is right, get a high draft slot next year and inject some talent into the system, make some smart offseason signings, and hope for better health next year.

Giving a s**t about the opinion of the fans is what got Wheeler traded.
We're going to break the sellout streak regardless considering we can't compete with even the s**ttiest teams in the league.
Quite frankly I would get rid of Timmy if the price is right, he's been bad for two years now aside from a no-hitter although he's looked better recently.
Scutaro has shown he can be productive at an older age and his contract isn't really bad for what/who he is.
Lopez is older but a great LOOGY, easily one of the top in the league and a championship-caliber team can always use a great reliever down the stretch. How is his contract crap? He's a FA at the end of the season.
Romo is going to get more now than ever and closers are expendable and considerably over-valued.
The Giants would be doing their fans a disservice by continuing to not planning for the future by handing out bad contracts to older players in hopes of catching lightning in a bottle for the umpteenth time. Better to do it now than flounder for the next three years.

He did it to please the fans because he felt he "owed it to them" to make a run at a repeat even though it clearly wasn't happening with Posey out for the year.
This team cannot compete in it's current form regardless of the injuries. If you can get value from guys that may or may not stay next year then you have to take that risk and weigh it against whether or not a first round sandwich pick is worth more.

Right, but the point is the fans DIDNT want the Beltran deal. That was on Sabean. Theres a difference between trading an elite pitching prospect for a rental player in a lost season, and not telling the fans to "f-off" by trading half the team halfway into a season when youre wearing "WS champs" patches.
You sell now, not only does it kill the next couple years at least, but it tells the fans you give up. Despite having some of the best young players in the game, you are throwing in the towel for a few years. Thats a horrible message, and unnecessary to get the team back on track. We've had some injuries, some bad luck, and were partially doomed from the start due to a lack of preparation by the front office this offseason.
Like I said, go ahead and trade a couple guys who will be leaving anyways if you can get a nice package of near ready prospects, but blowing it up is the last thing you want to do right now. Ask the Marlins fans how much they like that strategy.
