NBA referees will have more reasons to issue technical fouls next season.
At the referees' annual meeting in Jersey City, N.J., on Thursday, the league announced the guidelines for technical fouls will expand to include "overt" player reactions to referee calls.
Referees have been instructed to call a technical for:
• Players making aggressive gestures, such as air punches, anywhere on the court.
• Demonstrative disagreement, such as when a player incredulously raises his hands, or smacks his own arm to demonstrate how he was fouled.
• Running directly at an official to complain about a call.
• Excessive inquiries about a call, even in a civilized tone.
In addition, referees have been instructed to consider calling technicals on players who use body language to question or demonstrate displeasure, or say things like, "Come on!" They can also consider technicals for players who "take the long path to the official", walking across the court to make their case.
I get the part where they want to crack down on b***hing, but they are moving towards NFL status on wanting a bunch of robots out on the court that show no emotion.
Wow. Dwight Howard is f**ked. I see him leading the league in tech's.

chadfordinsider Sources: Nuggets discussing four-team trade that would land Melo in New Jersey: http://es.pn/cn5YTL (via @STEIN_LINE_HQ)
The proposed deal, sources said, also would involve the Utah Jazz and the Charlotte Bobcats. It would deliver Nets rookie forward Derrick Favors, Jazz veteran Andrei Kirilenko and multiple first-round picks to Denver in exchange for their franchise player, potentially bringing a resolution to Anthony's uncertain future before the Nuggets hold their first practice of the new season.
Sources told ESPN.com that the deal, which has yet to be finalized, also would send former All-Star point guard Devin Harris to Charlotte, with Bobcats forward Boris Diaw moving to Utah.
The four teams, said one source close to the talks, are "seriously engaged" after extensive talks Thursday.

Sending AK to Denver doesn't make any sense for Utah especially if they jsut get Diaw back.

It does if you take into account salary - Kirilenko is due over $17 million this year, Diaw $9 million. That's over $8 million in savings, and while it doesn't get them under the cap, it does put the Jazz well under the Luxury Tax Threshold. Considering Diaw and AK hold about the same value in terms of basketball worth, not to mention Diaw has shown to be a much more durable player, I'd say that'd be a great move for the Jazz.

Well put. This is a rare 4 team trade that actually makes sense for everyone involved.

And AK's salary is actually closer to $18 million. Diaw does have one more year on his deal, but that's also at $9 million and could be used as trade bait for teams looking to get under the cap for the 2012 Free Agency market, or they could let it expire along with Okur's, and they'd be freeing up nearly $20 million between the two.

AK's contract ends this year though. I think it would be better to hold out for a better deal.

Yeah, pretty ridiculous. Part of what makes the game entertaining is the emotional appeal of it. Obviously some people take it too far, but now Timmy's gonna get T'd up when he doeson a call he doesn't like?
Came here to post this, or at least say that my sentiments are similar.

Yeah, remember when they tried this a few years back? It lasted for about a month. I remember Andres Nocioni getting T'd up for giving the ref a Duncan.

That and the "new ball"

Now they got "new jerseys" and they're trying to enforce this again. Coincidence?

I have a hard time imagining that team winning more than 35 games.

on a call he doesn't like?
