It's because the media portrays him as some sort of Jesus-like figure.

I really hope Tim Tebow has a sex or drug scandal. That way he can be knocked down a few notches, and then I can simply like him as an extordinary athlete who is normal like the rest of us.

Dwight's toned down the religious persona, and I like him a lot better for it.

Yeah, pretty ridiculous. Part of what makes the game entertaining is the emotional appeal of it. Obviously some people take it too far, but now Timmy's gonna get T'd up when he does on a call he doesn't like?
