Please tell me that the venue for the USA/Australia game yesterday is not an actualy World Cup venue. That place looked like it was smaller than the Alameda County Fair race track.
About the game that I just finished watching the replay, we need to finish on a lot of those chances that were there. Top notch teams will not allow that many chances, let alone not pay for capitalizing on them.
I agree on the capitalizing comment you made, but the positive spin on that is our team CAN make those kinds of chances, and as much of a US fan as I am, I've never seen a team going to the WC who could play so strongly offensively.
On the venue part, no it's not one of the places the teams will be playing in. It was a semi-professional team field they used (think it maybe a high school field as well) and that's actually one of the reasons why I'm worried about the use of Buddle.
Yes, he can play and is on a scoring streak, so I'd use him as a situational player if we're at a stalemate with a squad, but Altidore has shown he can perform infront of the international crowds and produce.
On the other hand, Altidore is getting over an injury and hasn't been producing on a regular level all season, unlike Buddle. After a lot of thought, I say we still start Altidore, if healthy, b/c I think his lack of consistency has been due to the loss of Davies. He and Davies had developed a rapport for each other during the CONACAF qualification and Confederations Cup runs, and now he's had to accomidate with Ching, Dempsey, Findley, and a whole bunch of hodge-poge front-2 strikers. Findley seems to have finally figured out his role (though that miss on Saturday was just plain awful) in spreading the field so guys like Altidore, Dempsey, Donovan, Cherundolo, Bradley, etc. can make plays
GO USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. any US fans living in Kansas City? Have to go there for work but wanna find a bar where I can watch the game
