Love in here for Elmore Smith and Alvin Adams but nothing for Maurice Lucas? LOL Smith was a totally 1 dimensional player who never made an AS team. Adams had a good rookie year and made 1 AS game but not much more. Lucas made several AS games and was the leading scorer on the 76 Blazers that won the title with Bill Walton. He was probably the toughest player in the NBA at that time... someone no one would mess with.
I can see the virtue of taking a shot blocker like Smith but Lucas was by far and away the best player taken so far in round 8.
Wow, are you really campaigning for people to ride your jock?
LOL. No. I just think Lucas was a solid pick and a very underrated player who was a star. Just wanted to point it out to those that are too young to know him. I think most of us have made some good picks and bad ones ( in my case George Mikan wasnt the best where I took him) but I though Lucas was a steal there.
He was a nice pick judging by the stats. I don't think enough people know about some of these guys to really comment on these picks. I know I don't.
I agree. Obviously we all know the players from the 90s on. Its the players from the 80's and earlier that the younger Zone members are not too familiar with. Stats dont always tell the story either. Lucas was just a bad bad man who was a true enforcer yet could play great defense and still skilled enough to be his teams leading scorer. Put it this way... he is exactly the type of player that the Warriors need right now.
Lucas definitely was a good pick. He was a tough guy, but he was helped out considerably by Walton on the defensive end. The only times Lucas made the all-defensive team in his 14 year career is when he played next to Bill Walton. He wasn't a shot-blocker or shot-changer, and was extremely turnover and foul prone. A power forward that averages more than 4 turnovers & 4 fouls per game in the same season is incredible.
Excellent two-way player, no doubt, but I think that all-star appearances are overrated.
As for Smith, he wasn't one-dimensional...he was two-dimensional. He was a superb rebounder an all-time great shot blocker. Lucas needed the ball a lot more than Smith did. Not that that is a bad thing, but on an all-time team there are plenty of guys who can score.
EDIT: I also think that there are a lot more quality PFs available than Centers. I did consider Lucas with my pick, but I can get another PF later that isn't a big dropoff from Lucas.
