The 2009 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Thread

don't think ND is winning tonight against Pitt. also they should have 2 more losses. but Michigan State's qb Kirk Cousins threw ill advised int in the closing minute and so did Perdue's qb. ND is not as good as they're hyped up to have been.

Charlie Weis is just as horrible of a coach as he's a human

Why is he a horrible human ?

If Notre Dame could play defense we would have a much better record. Jimmy Clausen's play this year has been a godsend.
all over.
They fought well to get back in the game, but they just couldn't protect Jimmy consistently enough when it really counted.

Dion Lewis was in beast mode tonight!
they might be able to beat uconn but it's going to be difficult against stanford if stanford is playing for rose bowl berth

So with it looking like this may indeed be Charlie's last year as the HBIC at the football factory....time to bring up some names and rumors in regards to replacements.

So 1st off from CFT :

Quote:
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, those are the two big names swirling around the Irish football program as potential replacements for Weis.

If athletic director Jack Swarbrick decides Weis' Notre Dame career is over after his fifth season, a source said Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz will be in the mix to replace him. The source said Stoops has told confidants he would be interested in talking to the Irish.

Of course, the Irish wanting Stoops or Ferentz is one thing, but it's another thing entirely for the interest to be reciprocated. Or if the interest even can be reciprocated.

Both Stoops and Ferentz signed long-term contract extensions this offseason , and both run through the 2015 seasons. The extensions likely contain substantial buyouts, especially this early on in the new deals.

Other names that could be rumored :

-Brian Kelly, Cincy

-Mike Leach, Texas Tech

-Kevin Sumlin, Houston

-Chris Petersen, Boise State

-Kyle Whittingham, Utah

-Garry Patterson, TCU

-Bronco Mendenhall, BYU

-Mike Riley, Oregon State

-Butch Jones, Central Michigan

-Skip Holtz, East Carolina

-Jim Grobe, Wake Forest
^^hey Blastmaster, what happened to Urban Meyer from your list.

Personally I hope they target him but I'm not sold that they would or that he'll come to the Bend....but with Tebow leaving (amongst others) it might be the right time to jump ship for him should he choose.

I am torn on this one.. would love to have him, and totally understand why he took the Florida job instead of the ND job when he did, but the fact that he turned down ND once still rubs me the wrong way. why the hell would Stoops leave Oklahoma?

and if its Mike Leach, they have officially lost their minds.. the next coach has to have some defensive background.. if they could get Ferentz or Stoops, I would jump all over it
My personal preference from KRS's list would be Brian Kelly, Gary Patterson, or even Bronco Mendenhall. I would love for them to get Kirk Ferentz but I doubt that happens.

I'm not sure about Ferentz.. havent heard him comment on the situation..but he is a midwest guy and if he can win with the guys at Iowa, imagine what he could do in South Bend.

Why would he leave Florida? He already has one of the best programs in the nation. He can win the Title almost every year there. At Notre Dame he would enter a rebuilding program with no guarantee of success.
