Every team has die hard fans. You think Lions fans or Browns fans wouldn't pay to see their team. The Niners sucked for years and real fans still watched. Sure there would be more if the team is winning but there is always a hard core. Sunday Ticket has 2 things going against it. One is that it is only on Directv. That cuts it's revenue down right there. The other is that you have to buy the entire package.

If they went pay-per-view they could make it available on all the networks including streaming so they would reach more people. They could also eliminate the endless commercials that slow the action down. They might actually be able to fit a football game into a 3 hour time slot again instead of 3 1/2 hours. More action and fewer commercials might lead to even more viewers.
it doesn't matter if you're hardcore or not. This convo started with viewership down in a quarantine year (not sure how, when more people are at home).. and that's without paying extra on whatever service you are using to watch games.

Wealthiest teams Ranks
Browns are at 26 worth 2.35 bill at an operating income of 87mil
Lions are at 30 worth 2.1 bill at an operating income of 43mil

49ers are at 5 worth 3.8 bill at an operating income of 121mil

Revenue sharing helps the teams that don't make much like the browns, lions bengals

It's the very reason why the cowboys opted out of Revenue Sharing, because they don't want to share what they make

Dallas is at 1 worth 5.7bill with an income of 425mill

Not completely accurate, I would still watch the 9ers play. And if they were worried about single games, they could still do induvudual team single season packages.
9ers is a big market. so i don't see them getting hit as hard.

People have been exressing for single team packages since the Direct/Sunday ticket's existence. Still hasn't happened.

Some markets still don't invest for their home town teams and it's the reason there's shared revenue. (So teams don't fall in the red)

Personally I think streaming is the future. You eliminate all the commercials and the game can be compressed into about half its regular run time on a typical station. The bad news is you don't watch it live. So the pay per view idea probably will be one of the models that most fans would prefer. I'm OK with not watching it live most of the time. Most fans aren't though.
They have that already. Watch any past game for a 99$ subscription called NFL Game Pass

Which is what I have. When I want to watch it live, I just watch it over the air. But most times I just stream it. Others may not have the over-the-air option (like NY85) and just do a pay par view deal.
I think NY goes to Bars, plus there is a PPV. The ticket

Better than being behind bars.

Offer a lower priced package or pay-per-view and for every current customer who switches to the lower priced option (most customers or just many?) you need to add a number of entirely new customers just to offset the loss. That isn't going to work.

The NFL doesn't want to lower its revenue per viewer, they want to take part of what the cable company currently makes.

Edit: Cable needs the NFL way more than the NFL needs cable

I think they would get a lot of new customers and here's why. If they went to a pay-per-view system they would likely omit a lot of games that are currently shown for free. They currently show Sunday, Sunday night, Monday night and Thursday night games for free. What if they said only Sunday day games would be free and only available in a small geographic region. I'm pretty sure fans would pay. Look what they pay for now. MMA and boxing get $99 for events that could be over in a few minutes. Neither of those is nearly as popular as the NFL They would surely retain their current subscribers and pick up a lot of people that don't have Directv. That's a pretty big audience.

There is one issue with streaming that needs to be fixed. Many of us don't have reliable high speed internet which makes streaming sporting events an issue if the speeds and bandwidth isn't adequate. That's being upgraded around the country but until it's really good all over, streaming is a poor option for some.
There is no free games unless you're watching local channels with a HD antenna.

Your idea is now taking away the games that were already included in their service and telling them to pay extra

What ever service you are using is not going to make you pass less because they take the NFL away
It will be interesting to see if viewership goes up this season. There were an awful lot of games on tv last year. Remember how they were even doing Thursday doubleheaders? I think they even squeezed some games in on Wednesday because of delays caused by the Covid protocol. . It's hard to know how much Covid affected the viewership. Some may have tuned out from the start when they saw no fans in the stands. The fact that you didn't know from one week to the next if your teams' game would be cancelled may have been a factor. Then there were all the injuries that were probably caused by the lack of training camp conditioning. Let's see what happens this year.

I realize tha they aren't totally free. I just mean you aren't paying extra for the NFL. Carriers pay the networks a fee to carry them. The networks decide what they want to show. They bid for the contracts every few years.

Yeah i'm not sure what is the exact cause.. could be all thee above (covid, layoffs, sacrafices, cord cutting)

As for team by team it would be great, it's great idea. I just don't see how the bigger markets wanting to pay more in revenue sharing because the smaller market teams can't make as much cash.

Plus, since i'm a season ticket holder, i'll be damned if i got to pay extra to watch away games also

Your last sentence says a lot. People didn't stop going to games when ticket prices increased from $35 to $40 to $50 and to whatever they are now. $100. $150. I know some are as high as $350. That's in addition to the PSLs that many fans have to pay just for the right to buy the tickets. Fans love their football and they seem to be willing to pay almost anything. I moved out of the Bay Area before the team moved to SC but I wouldn't have renewed my seats. The PSL was going to cost about $30 grand and the seats would have been about $200 per game for seats comparable to what we had at the Stick. That's a lot for anyone but for a person that's retired it's out of the question. I know a lot of old time fans that didn't make that move. It didn't make a difference. There were plenty of young , wealthy people on the waiting list.

To me, paying $299 per year for Sunday Ticket is a bargain, especially when you call them and negotiate a better deal every year. This year I ended up getting it for free. I no longer have to deal with traffic and overpriced food either.

When i got the ticket for free it was great.. but when i had to start paying i felt i didn't really need it as when the 9ers are home i'm at the game and when they are away i don't watch other teams when the 9ers are on. plus when i used the ticket, it was more fun just to have the Redzone channel on

100% why I believe the NFL made the demand from Disney because they know streaming access is here now and there are other non-traditional competitors out there who have the $ to compete (AMZ). I'm a cable cutter per se, just have broadband internet. I'm shocked that people still have cable boxes with the bloated packages, fees and hundreds of channels of crap you never watch anyway. NFL has a product that can standalone. I've been hoping NFL Sunday Ticket reinvents itself to more of a PPV model, or even like the NBA has done, you can follow your favorite team for a season. I'm not paying what is it now $400 to watch the Lions and the Jags just to see the Niners. And I'm sure Sunday Ticket subscriptions this season at bars and restaurants were way, way down with COVID. DirectTV has already moved to a streaming platform and not sure how much say the NFL has in the packaging offered. One size fits all is no longer the future.

Streaming is fine if you live in a place with fast reliable internet. Unfortunately that's not the case for a lot of us. It's okay most of the time but heavy traffic slows it down. When that happens video motion slows as well or even freezes. I agree that there are a lot of channels that I never watch but that doesn't mean other people aren't watching. That's why they include them in the packages. I looked into streaming services but I would need to subscribe to about 5 to the channels I watch the most since they all have a slightly different lineup. Even then there are a some that I couldn't get. I get NBCSports Bay Area which carries the Giants, As and Warrior games. I couldn't find any streaming service that would let me get that channel. With Directv I have access to all Warrior, Blazer, Giants, As and Mariner games as well as the Sunday Ticket, several ESPN channels, FOX Sports, NFL Network and of course the local networks. I watch all of those at times; some more than others. It really comes down to where you live and what you like to watch.

If you have Directv, they will always give you a deal if you call them and threaten to stop the service. This past year they couldn't give me a deal on Sunday Ticket so instead they gave me $70 per month off my monthly service for one year. That's more than double what Sunday Ticket costs. They also knocked $5 off of HBO for 6 months. (they own HBO so they can always do a deal there) Streaming has them running scared so you don't have to argue much with them.

went through that. bartering just got old. I switched to Directs streaming service at the fraction of the cost of satelite with the channels i mostly watch. We went full streaming with appletv.

I got lucky last season(2020) around the 2020 draft I got an email from AT&T saying I was getting NFL Sunday Ticket Max for free, I didn't know if it was real, it ended up being true. I also got them to give me $70 off a month for 12 months last August, will try to get a deal again this season, at least for the 12 month discounts, and I didn't have to agree to a new 1 or 2 year contract. I absolutely love my DirecTV, I just hope they can retain the ticket, at least if it's on all providers, I hate exclusive s**t, but if they get it exclusive for TV, and someone like Amazon or ESPN+/Disney gets streaming rights, that's what I hope happens, either DTV gets the exclusive TV part or all providers finally get it, and we have a streaming option. I'm not ready to go from DirecTV to streaming only, my ISP sucks. So slow despite paying for the 100mbps speed, also idk if anyone else on other ISPs get charged for WiFi service, but they charge $5 for it. Stupid IMO.

Different packages make sense for some people. It all comes down to what kind of stuff you like and how much tv you watch. I admit I probably watch too much but I'm 74 and live alone so there aren't a ton of options, especially in Oregon during the winter. Covid made it even worse. For me Directv has always offered the best mix of sports, movie and original programming so I've stayed with them for over 20 years. That's another reason I can always get a deal. They hate losing customers that have been with them a long time.

1. Wow I didn't know you were 74, and 2. Yeah they hate losing customers, I've been with them since 2006, so 16 years now.
