Acho is forgetting about DeMeco Ryans, but yeah, the NFCW has too many good offensive minds to not bring in a high-level DC. Gus Bradley ain't going to cut it against Sean McVay and Klint Kubiak.

Every coordinator in the league is trying to look good and be a head coach, unless theyre old and have failed badly at head coach (ie, Fangio). They typically will want a good situation and good players around them to look good.
There is this thought that the Niners DC job is coveted, and its just not true. After the Wilks disaster they didnt have many candidates lined up, they had to go with Sorensen ( a disaster) and then pay Saleh a boatload to inject some life into defense. Kyle dictates to DCs what to do and likes familiar people running the ship, and his stint with Wilks may have pushed him even further in that direction.
I mean 49er DCs get actual shots to be a HC. How was Wilks a disaster? He went to the freaking SB. Turns out he wasn't really a great fit and last I checked is unemployed because he just might not be very good.
Kyle didn't dictate s**t to Ryans or Saleh. He doesn't want to coach both sides of the ball like that….my god they gave Saleh whatever the hell he wanted. Damn near all our draft picks went to the D. One of the highest paid DCs in football.
this whole narrative that Kyle is some dictator is so full of s**t. If anything his coaching staff has a TON of sway on stuff, not the other way around.
Unless I'm missing something i swore that Shanahan stated that we will run a defense similar to what Dan Quinn was running when he left ATL. That was before Saleh as even named DC. To me that's dictating what they can do. Doesn't meant they don't have input on players that fit the defense or get paid what they deserve. 2 separate things to me.

This just seems like a typical Kyle move. I think he's going to give it to Gus. Why else would he be on the team ? There was an obvious back alley hand shake that Gus would be the DC if Saleh got the Jacksonville job last year, and if Saleh came to SF Gus would he the guy in waiting once Saleh left. Absolutely agree with Acho. This will be a disaster in the making…

This would piss me off if I was him but maybe I am just petty.

Me too. But again, nothing has come out yet saying that it bothers Schwartz. I guess we'll see.
I want Schwartz as much as the next guy but I am 99.9% expecting Gus Bradley. I would be so much more excited for Bradley if his defense with the Colts wasn't such a failure. He's had success everywhere else he's been DC except his most recent stint with the Colts (#15 in 2022 and then #25 in 2023 and #29 in 2024
) With the Chargers he did have a top 10 defense three seasons in a row but that was 2018-2020.

Its not a promotion. The only recognized promotions are play-calling coordinator and head coach.

I keep reading on here and on 49ers Reddit that Shanahan and Schwartz were apparently so friendly after the November 30th game. Like it was the friendliest handshake ever given apparently.
Can someone please link a clip of this? Because I've thoroughly searched Google/YouTube and found absolutely nothing of the sort.

Not only that- but the peak 49er defenses were 2021 and 2022. Id even argue the 2022 squad > 2023 squad by a small margin, due to the defense.
For those who want to scrap the wide 9, what is DeMeco running? Both Ryans and Saleh left the 49ers and built number 1 defenses QUICKLY with the Jets and Texans with this system. The system works, but we need the players to run it. That means we must identify get another edge rusher in the draft (Mesidor?), another corner with starting ability, interior rushing, and a free safety that can create some turnovers. Seems hard but with shrewd drafting this can be do
ne in one season.

Also: I don't want Raheem Morris.
Seriously. Why do people want Morris? He has coordinated a top 16 defense exactly zero times. And he has four seasons as a DC from 2020 to 2023.

Mesidor would be my pick in the 1st rd ,might have to trade up to get him I'm sure he won't be there at 27 pick.....that would make great pass rushing front plus I would also pick Omar Copper in the 2nd round he is everything Kyle wants in a wr,blocking, multiple positions, deep threat very good route runner.....
