Deiter Kurtenbach, Hutchinson's cohost, has been on the Schwartz to SF narrative for the past month or so. His quote from a pod a week or two ago was, "the wheels are already in motion for this". Take that for whatever you will.

It seems the only way Schwartz happens is if Schwartz can convince the Browns to let him go because he's under contract.

Rooney rule is only for head coaches and senior football ops roles

Its also for coordinator positions but you only need to interview one external minority candidate instead of two like for HC and GM.

Would be a home run hire.

The Browns dont have a HC. If Gym Shorts really wants out, he can find a way to get out.

If they pass on him for HC then he could do what Fangio did after the 49ers passed on him for Tomsula and say nah, f**k y'all, I'm out!

if Im Schwartz, whats the benefit of going here though ? Compensation ?

Going from a generational player in Garrett and a scary ass front 7 with bunch of just drafted good young players (Graham, Schwesinger) where they make him better than he is, to the Niners defense which has two of its best players coming off big injuries and also aging....I dont know

I stand corrected

Not needing your defense to play a near perfect game week in and week out to have any shot at winning games?

Also you dont have to live in Cleveland.

…is this a serious question?

Or are you one of those "the Browns and 49ers have won the same number of Super Bowls since 1995 so Browns = 49ers as an organization!!" people?

Does he have any real connections or is he just a guy with a podcast?

Asking seriously.
He and Hutch are pretty well connected to the team.
Can you offer Schwartz a Assistant HC and DC job to get him from the Browns since technically that is a promotion?

yes, this is a serious question. but since you seem to like to make up crap for others, I will throw it back at you, I guess youre "one of those people" who think "BECAUSE ITS THE NINERS AND EVERYONE WOULD LOVE TO BE A COORDINATOR HERE" is the answer ?

Every coordinator in the league is trying to look good and be a head coach, unless theyre old and have failed badly at head coach (ie, Fangio). They typically will want a good situation and good players around them to look good.

There is this thought that the Niners DC job is coveted, and its just not true. After the Wilks disaster they didnt have many candidates lined up, they had to go with Sorensen ( a disaster) and then pay Saleh a boatload to inject some life into defense. Kyle dictates to DCs what to do and likes familiar people running the ship, and his stint with Wilks may have pushed him even further in that direction.

Jim Schwartz has won the superbowl as a defensive coordinator. Are you aware of that ?
