Truth, 80% sounds bad, but is meaningless unless you pull the same data for the other 31 teams in that period. If all the other teams miss 75% of the picks, now it isn't so bad.

Also, the Lance trade was a pick swap and 2 1st round picks, not 3 1sts. Big difference, it didn't pan out, but that wording makes it sound far worse. Personally, I like the aggressive move to get a young QB when it was clear that JG couldn't stay healthy but Fields and Lance both suck -- I was a Fields guy.

I also was a fields guy and I didn't mind the big swing. Gotta take real chances sometimes. My only scrutiny is taking Lance. I was very against it from the start tried to remain optimistic about it until proven otherwise. It is what it is though.

NFL is funny like this - it took a tiny swing to get our attention qb (last pick in the draft), not an insane swing like we did for Lance. Lol

Swung for the fences and whiffed. Next up at bat, bunted, and turned into an in the park homerun.
Call him 3DO. 3rd Downs Only.

good move. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder from last year, and has something to prove. A perfect fit for the rotation. Not a big risk either. Massive upgrade over Robert Beal. I'm excited about this

Hardgrave was freaking horrible all the same (159th) and Collins wasn't costing us $20M. Got no problem beefing up the run d with Collins/west there still isn't any legit interior pass rushers on the roster right now.

I'm hoping someone like Elliot takes the next step cause for as much as I like the two interior guys we drafted (Collins & west), I get nervous without a veteran guy that's established not in the group. We will see how things look in camp. I just worry that no matter how good a rookie is, the nfl season is long and brutal - I question if they can sustain an entire season of good play their first year.

what gives me some hope is that Saleh does a great job rotating, so maybe they won't get as many snaps as a traditional DT does.

i really like west. I think he's way more explosive than some realizes. He's powerful too

Dude is that saying that he got pressure on 100% of his snaps in 2023? And won nearly 98%??? If so that's nuts.

M. Collins has three down ability and would have slotted in very nicely next to guys like Alfred Collins and CJ West on base downs. Elliot should have been on from. I would like to have seen M Collins next to some of these pass rush additions on nickel downs as well.

As of now outside of moving some of our edge rushers inside like they've done in the past and finding something that works, Givens is probably the best interior rusher we have from the DT's.

Agreed. Collins can get upfield and that's important for interior pressure. I'm sure we'll see Williams pushed inside on those passing downs. I would much rather have him develop as a true edge rusher.

So many decent pass rushing DTs in this draft and they went a different route. Can't say I'm shocked lol. Guess we will see how it plays out.

I wonder if part of the reason for that is that in the wide-9 and when you want to keep your LBs clean the ability to hold the point is a more critical skill to prioritize?

Also we don't know about the scheme the players are coming from and what that did to their pass rush production.

They said 3rd day so at worst it's a 4th.

Where did it say 3rd day? All I saw was mid round

Mid round would be 3rd day. I don't think a 3rd round pick would be considered mid round. e'll see. It's worth even a 3rd if it's a compensatory pick which is more like an early 4th rounder.

According to who? First round is first day. Second and third round is day 2. Rounds 4-7 is 3rd day. Mid round suggests to me that it would be day 2; the "middle" of days.

1,2,3,4,5,6,7 ... to me the middle of that set is 3,4, and 5.

Exactly why the pickle. Saying "mid round" and "3rd day" can have different meanings. In your own set of middle numbers lay two different days of the draft

Yep. It's why I asked NY where he got "Day 3".

I posted it already

Yeah, I saw it. Thanks.
Compilation of Huff's pressures from 2023. There are a lot of clean wins there. Dude reminds me a lot of Yannick Ngakoue as a DPR. Huff's cross chop is filthy. Quick hands. He was so good at manipulating tempo and timing in 2023, and that starts with the speed rush. I remember hearing about him asking Fangio for permission to change his stance in Philly since Fangio stands up his edges. It makes sense that a guy who's pass rush revolves around speeding and then slowing down tackles would want to get back into a stance that allows him to fire off the ball better. He's certainly not going to have to ask for permission for that in SF with Saleh and Kocurek.

His swim and rip look really good. He does them without really losing much speed.

I wonder if Beal is going to give them anything to think about his roster spot at all. I hope he's so good they can't let him go ... but not the way to bet.
Aside from one outlier season hes been a 2-3 sack guy. Not sure why everyone is so excited..

Because he did it in Saleh's defense

If someone is judging if a player is a good pass rusher solely off of "sack stats", then they don't understand pass rushing at all.

"in 2022, Huff averaged a QB hit every 19.1 snaps which ranked first in the league, and according to Pro Football Focus, had a 28% pass rush win rate that led all defenders (min. 130 snaps).

"I pretty much just stayed locked in throughout the entire year," Huff said. "I know it's a long season. Not getting bored with doing the small things, that help elevate your game."

PFF gave Huff a 90.4 defensive grade and an 88.0 pass-rush grade – both ranked first on the Jets. He told reporters after the season that spending time with Pro Bowl teammates DL Quinnen Williams, CB Sauce Gardner and LB C.J. Mosley helped him elevate his game."

"In 2023, Huff's pass rush numbers were elite by every measure in 2023. According to PFF, here are his numbers and ranks among 72 qualified edge rushers (min. 275 pass-rush snaps).

  • 22.9% pass rush win rate (3rd)
  • 20.1% pressure rate (T-1st)
  • 2.99% sack rate (T-13th)
  • 25.4% true pass set pressure rate (3rd)
  • 18.6% adjusted pressure rate (2nd) (adjusting for a league-average rate of true pass sets)

For reference, PFF's top-rated edge rusher on the free-agent market, Josh Allen, posted a 17.5% pressure rate and a 20.5% pass rush win rate. That's how dominant Huff was as an edge rusher."

huff has 2 dominant seasons as a pass rush specialist and then got paid in free agency by the eagles. then was a free agent and was played way out of position for Vic tango's scheme.

his rookie year, he made the team as an UDFA, made starter his second year but got injured and then was dominant his 3rd and 4th year as a top pass rusher in the nfl.

now he's back in the scheme and under the guy who helped build him up. Back in those same role he was in NY.

THAT'S why anyone who knows what makes a player a good pass rusher, is excited about getting huff.
