How Do You Feel Going Into 2025?

I assume you mean in the future? He's still on the team and it looked like we were ready to move on from FB after cutting him earlier this year
Yes

No love for James?
The team has brought in several players who could play FB/H-back/big-back but all have flamed out. I don't think Shanahan wants to go without that option.
Sad.

Hope James beats out Taylor. Taylor's not bad but he doesn't look or have anything special. Yeah we have picked up a couple of FBs over the years but haven't in awhile. I'd like to keep a FB but who is even taking that spot? It's a dying breed sadly, I'd rather run dual TEs rather than force a project into a FB spot

Josh Hokit wasn't that long ago ... I can't remember the one before that.

Finding a TE who can block effectively from the backfield is hard to do and I feel like Kyle and CMC love having a FB available.
Glad QB got paid and CMC looks fully recovered. I'm not really concerned about offense (weapons) other than depth on oline. And, I'm relieved DC won't be an issue this year (Saleh could be a blessing). Team still has a lot of big ifs and holes to fill, but I have to believe the staff/coaches will have them ready to compete day 1 and perhaps scary good by midseason. I just hope these next 3 months will be enough time to figure out their biggest issues.
It will be an interesting year. DC, will definitely be better than past two years. Young infusion of hungry talent, they may take some lumps early, but show promise of hopefully gelling by years end with veterans to guide them.

Key for any team is staying healthy.

Opponents, won't won't know what to expect from us.

Not necessarily optimistic but excited to see our new defense especially with the return of Saleh, I just hope he's here for more than one year we need to find some stability especially with all these young players on defense

Yes please. Losing coaches to other teams is a sign you are doing well ... but when you fire coordinators in back to back years it demonstrates significant brain drain.
lot of wind at our sails, i view this entire offseason as positive

we cleared a lot of oft injured or not producing guys out
the draft restocked the defense
the schedule is one of the easiest you will ever see
now we are getting all our key guys locked up

i still see room for a splash move, like bringing in jalen ramsey. he's a big contract, who doesn't want to be in miami and he's an older player, so i don't think you have to give up a ton here. we have so much trending our way, i think we should make another move, to further better our position over the rams.
I feel very good, 100%.

I didn't feel so amazing last offseason. Losing the Super Bowl and those hold outs, I just knew it was going to be a wacky season.

So do you pessimists really think this is the first year the 49ers are going to make the playoffs and fail to reach the NFC Championship Game under Shanahan? :) Hell, we didn't even miss the NFCC with Harbaugh, the 3 times we made the playoffs under him. One would have to go back to what the 2002 season where the 49ers made the playoffs and didn't knock on the Super Bowl's doorstep....holy s***.

IMO, only two things hold this team back from being a massive force this year:

1) Young players not gelling fast enough
2) OL still not elite (this one keeps them from winning it all, like always)

Other than that, there's a lot to be excited for. Purdy isn't a fluke QB, and the Niners had to forcefully re-evaluate and restock this team in a way they haven't had to do in a long time. Prior to this offseason, the only notable reshuffling the team did was transition from Garoppolo to Lance.

There were minor tweaks to the roster in seasons past, like trading away Buckner, letting DJ Jones go in FA, transitioning out Kwon Alexander to Dre Greenlaw, losing Al Shair in FA.....and of course the gradual secondary change ups. The 2023 vs 2019 49ers roster was a gradual evolution, but now we're seeing something a bit more drastic.

I place my faith in the captains we have, a bunch of studs, Purdy, Kyle, and of course Saleh too. There's going to be a lot of energy in this new team, especially on defense, that combined with the last place schedule should offset any challenges early in the season.
y.
It should be a much more exciting year than last one.

IMO, you need at least two consecutive losing seasons for me to start to worry about the team. It's insane to me that the 49ers nearly won the Super Bowl 15 1/2 months ago and are looked at by many people as a mediocre team.

The big difference between now in 2025 vs 2021, was that I trust Purdy way more than Jimmy G, and there's a much stronger sense of renewed pride with young guy versus getting guys back from injury (Bosa, Jimmy).

I hope Brandon Aiyuk can be a major part of this offense again. I would've been ok if we got rid of him even this offseason (and especially last one).....it would be nice to have defenses fear our WRs again. Now that he's going to be a Niner conceivably for awhile, I hope he can be at least 85% of what he was in 2023, at some point this season.

I'm also curious what Kyle has in mind for the offensive evolution. For as much of talk as there's been to bringing an elite defense back schematically, I often remind people that the league has adjusted so much to the Shanahan offense, that people forget that he needs quite a bit more talent than he used to, to get similar production from the old days.

I'm wondering if we finally see Kittle in a more threatening role with the acquisition of Luke Farrell and bringing back Dwelley (along with re-signing Juice).

Unless he's willing to be a jack of all trades meaning playing CB,S, and slot which he's more than capable it'd be a hard pass for me on Ramsey

not sure why a hard pass. it's rumored rams are in on him, so us getting him would also deny our top division rival.

this is our secondary, and it may be our largest cause for concern

CB - Lenoir
CB - Green
NB - Stout
FS - Mustapha
SS - Brown

i see a lot of holes here. leaning on young guys, and malik may start on pup. i see need for a corner and a safety. i don't mind richie grant getting some play, he had a solid run for atlanta. but we need a corner. unless we think stout is just walking into the nfl and owning it.

Crazy you have to go back to 2002 where we didn't make the nfc championship when we go to the playoffs. Yeah McVay, Mcdaniels, and Lafleur all copy elements of the Shannahan offense. When everyone is healthy it's still high octane

Hard pass on trading for Ramsey to me too. His play is inconsistent, was bad last year, and his contract is HUGE for what he brings.

Because he's getting old has a big contract that is signed through 2028, if he's willing to play nickel and S that'd be interesting but idk if I want to be tied to 30 yr old DB making 18M annually through 2028 even if you cut him on the last year of his contract It'd be 5M in dead cap.
