Campbell to the Eagles really sucks. So does Simmons being scooped up in KC.

Depends on how healthy Simmons is. He had the same injury that ended Richburg's career. There's no guarantee that he's ever back to 100%. There's still a lot of skepticism that he'll be ready to go for Week 1.

They put themselves in the situation to try though. Moore can hold it down while Simmons recovers, and means they don't have to entertain extending Taylor.

They're just a better ran franchise to us and we have to accept it. If we believed in Purdy enough he'd be signed to an 8 year + deal so we can mess with his cap hits like the Chiefs have done.

Fair enough they gambled and won with Mahomes, but they had the foresight to evaluate him properly.

Our Front office are too stubborn and unwilling to be flexible on their pre conceived notions.

The chiefs and Andy Reid were both close, but no cigar until finally stumbling onto Mahomes and finding success. OUr coach and GM combined haven't had as many years at their positions as Reid has had. You sound silly whining like this man. This is one of the top franchises in NFL, quit acting like a browns fan, lol.

We are, but there's a disconnect here. We either believe in Brock or we don't, a short term deal is horrendous, it will destroy our cap. Long term allows us to spread the bonuses out and not have him hit the market again for some time.

We've now cratered our roster and I'm not ecstatic about the first step to rebuild it. I'm happy to be proven wrong, I'm not a naysayer, but I've stopped drinking the Kool-aid. I still think Kyle is one of the best coaches in the business, but Lynch needs to step his game up. We have serious work to do.
The more I watch his tapes the more I like the pick.

I'm pretty sure Toyota has a deal with the NFL and probably specific nfl teams. Advertising partnership

I think its specific teams. It's for sure 49ers with Toyota though.

Drinking the Kool aid? Listen man, we couldn't get a better coach/gm combo if we tried. There's a reason teams raid our coaching staff and front office constantly, and it's not because we are a poorly run franchise. I even think Lynch has been good generally, especially considering this is his first GM gig.

They might be right, I've just stopped automatically assuming that they are.

That's the thing, they clearly do. They're hoping for both from Mykel. I also easily see them double dip on the position tonight or tomorrow.

But that doesn't mean they're right. There's currently no one on the roster to act as the 3rd LB in base downs be it as a SAM, WILL or 2nd MIKE.

I believe Jalon Walker could have filled one of those roles at a very high level and been a better pass rusher on 3rd down. I'm happy to be proven wrong, I hope that Williams is the guy.

I've just stopped automatically assuming that they've got it right.

I don't think 98 would look bad either. Julian Peterson ( who is announcing today's pick) made it look pretty good for a while there 2000 to 2006.
"Still only 20 years old with a lot of room for further development, especially as a pass rusher. Working with Bosa and going up against Trent Williams will do him a lot of good."

I swear the same was said for our past draft picks like Drake Jackson. It just seems either you're a natural pass rusher or not.

Obviously still hoping for the best, but yeah.

I have no problem with the pick. I'm not sure what his ceiling is but I think he will be serviceable and have a long career at the very least. My one head scratcher is the FO saying they wanted to move down to get him. I dunno, I trust Saleh but I just dont think Williams was worthy of more assets than an 11. He very well could've fell in the 20's.
They tried to trade up to get him, not down.

TBH, I don't know if I buy that.

Of COURSE Lynch is gonna say "we wanted him so badly we were willing to trade up for him!" doesn't mean they were actually going to.

Did Lynch say that? I heard it on the talk shows this morning. They tried to trade up ahead of Carolina, but Carolina ended up picking the WR guy instead.

If they were trying to trade ahead of Carolina, it should've been for Membou who went #7. I don't dislike Williams but he is absolutely not worth trading #11 and significant capital for.

It's because we've had success, but ultimately there has been some big issues that have set us way back. We now need to ensure there's competence to build us back.

Lance, Buck/Kinlaw, Bethard/Jimmy G/Kirk Cousins saga. Solomon Thomas/Reuben Foster. Hargreaves

All of these whiffs have left us in a situation where we need to replenish.

My wishes are for a long contract with a lot of guaranteed money to Brick to spread out his impact and stop him going back to the open market, and then good use of the draft to replenish the roster. Managing Trent Williams', retirement and replacement will be another huge priority.

I do have faith, but not blind faith we'll get it right.

Jackson was more projection than production. Williams has produced but still has a lot of potential to get better. Jackson was a freak who played well and flashed but was clearly super raw.

although I'm hopefully that Jackson takes a big step this year - that would really help us out. Same thing with Robert Beal Jr!

if we can actually develop those guys and they improve, we may be in for a nice surprise.

I'm guessing that the reason we didn't trade up was cause it was too expensive. Which was the right move, IMO.
aldon smith 2.0?

We were awful in defending the run, where the league is moving to, so I don't see how they can't be right for wanting to plug that as a floor AND have upside in passrush.

They, like many analysts, probably saw Walker as too much of a square peg in a round hole for us, and would rather get a sideline to sideline thumper with good coverage instincts to pair with Fred.

This also isn't black and white. No one is assuming s**t and "drinking the koolaid" just because they're happy with the pick.

With the decimation of the roster to pay Brock, the regime is fully aware that they need to crush this draft more than ever. Many like the pick and would rather give the benefit of the doubt to people who get paid to do this for a living (scouting, front office, etc) and are now in crunch time, rebuilding the roster.
