Guys don't get paid to record sacks; they get paid to dominate 1-on-1, and Hargraves is that dude. He's not just a one-tricky pony, either. Dude is powering, double-swiping, winning with speed, etc. This is a guy that can beat his man in many, many ways.

I love the dude

but

Few of those were against a double team. Not that any of that matters for the 49ers. If this was a crap defense, I would actually be worried because he had help in getting the sack number he got. Lucky for the 49ers they have a defense and they need a guy who can make a difference, and this dude absolutely makes a difference.

I think your general point is the guy is not product of a gimmick, nor is he a one trick pony. I 100% agree. Just to piggy back on the traits you mentioned, the dude seems to turn and track well too. Most of those sacks are high, flat footed and in control with both arms around the QB, not the thank goodness he got an inch of the guy and barley got him down that we see a good deal of in the NFL.

What I love about the dude is he has to be double teamed or you risk the pocket going backwards into the QBs face. We might get our quick penetrating version of AA back because of that. You can't double both AA and JH with linemen...some one is going to add pressure from the middle, and that makes Bosa's job much easier.

With the possibility we might be blitzing more, having at least 3 guys( maybe 4 if Jackson take the leap we all hope he can) that can dominate single blocking is going to add some real chaos to the defense again. I can't wait.
I don't think Armstead is a legit locker room leader yet but this guy is. He will be the Trent Williams of the defense and I believe that he will make the center and the guards much much better players. Now get Calais Campbell, too. I think he's still got some gas left in his tank, at least for 1 year. As the saying goes, you'll never get too many defensive linemen.

Armstead has been a team captain for the last 3 seasons.

Yeah I got that but what I'm trying to say is with Hargrave, the effect of having a more dominant lineman on a team is going to be more impactful. Your quality of play you leave on the field earns you the most respect of your teammates.

Armstead clearly already has the respect of his teammates as evidenced by his being named team captain 3 years in a row.

Nick Bosa calls Arik the "QB of the DL" and says he watches more film than anyone else on the DL. You don't think he is a legit locker room leader yet despite being the longest tenured 49er. He was the first guy to speak up and support Kinlaw after the Grant Cohn debacle.
For those of you old enough to remember, Javon Hargrave is built like Michael Carter. Both are 6'2". Hargrave is 20lbs heavier at 305 (Carter was 285-290) but that's relative since players were lighter back in Carter's day. If you look at they way they're built it's very similar. Both have thick lower bodies which is where they generate their power. We used to comment on Carter's big rear end and huge thighs and Hargrave is very similar. Carter was a silver medal winner in the shot put and most of those guys all have powerful lower bodies. It's how they get that explosiveness. If Hargrave can do for this team what Carter did for the teams back in the day then we're in for a treat.

I think the best way to put it is - Gravediggers STYLE of leadership is something we haven't really had. Armstead isn't the vocal dog type (like jimmy ward was for our DBs) but he's def an awesome leader.

Bosa leads by example with his work ethic and his pure dominance. Not his voice.

so when you couple all three - you have exceptional leadership in various forms, so everyone else falls in line and gets better.

I think Warner does enough chirping for the entire defense. I do think Ward getting into WRs faces will be missed.
Justin Smith sign with us when he was turning 29 and played out his contract. Hopefully Hargraves can do the same and make the same impact!

I think the quality of his play speaks volumes as to why he's a a team captain and respected
Dude has a plethora of moves. Once he gets the leverage his acceleration looks unreal. His change of direction is super fast. So many times he steps one way then changes direction and it's a wrap.
On pass rushing downs I'd line Bosa up on the right next to AA and Drake on the left next to Gravedigger
