In many ways he's a facsimile of Purdy. Similar strengths, similar weaknesses, regarded for being a smart QB with good awareness, good touch on his throws, compact throwing motion, good accuracy, very mobile and able to get out of the pocket, experienced, on the smaller size, questions about arm strength but gusty as f**k and a true competitor.

His game against UCLA in 2021 was something else.

That's more than fair. Not saying everyone's gotta like Lance but if you think Shanahan knows a thing or two about QBs - then I'd assume that you'll want to see what he saw in Lance. I'm having hard time with ppl who are not even willing to do that. To me, that makes no sense.

Wasn't trying to get under your skin. Just pointing out you can use the same logic for any retirement at the OL. To say Trent was hinting at retirement bc of Lance is just so ridiculous - so I made an equally ridiculous statement to make a point.

On Jimmy - I thought he played really well this season. Probably the best he has ever played and I respect the hell out of him for playing hurt in the last postseason. I am ready to find a true franchise QB - something we haven't had since Young retired. That's all I've to say on Jimmy.

As far as Lance - i believe we need to see what we have in him. Saying he's not good or anything special - I think it's based on feelings than any real evidence. How Jalen Hurts and Tua played this year should give everyone a reason to feel at least curious about Lance.

Look at that a reasonable post

It's called assumption. Pretty much what we do here at 49erswebzone.com.

It's an extreme reach to say Trent is contemplating retirement because he doesn't want Trey to be the QB and you're making something out of bothering. There's just no evidence for that. You could say he's contemplating retirement because he hates Shanahan or hates the 49er fans. It's flat out making up a story with zero evidence.

It is an extreme reach, but it's my assumption, I'm no media or coach, it's only my opinion and that's all we have here on the Webzone, so why let it bother you.

Because people cannot deal with someone having a different opinion than them.
Pray that Purdy recovers quicker than expected and is ready by training camp day 1

Nice that's what people point to when discussing him, that UCLA game.

Saying Trent is thinking about retiring because Lance might be the starter, is wayyyy different than saying imo that shirt is navy not black.

It's fine to have an opinion. You can't get upset if someone calls it out as ridiculous either.

Agreed. I'll I saying is give the kid a freaking chance. People are so hypocritical in here, drives me insane.
We literally have the worst luck in the world. We are cursed in some way. It's the only legit explanation for what's happend the last six years. Teams this talented an capable don't just naturally f**k up this many chances.

I think we are somehow being made to pay in the 2000's for our dominance of the 1980s an 1990s. Hopefully we have paid enough by now.

He said "Trent Williams throwing around retirement does give me the sense that he doesn't want to ride into the season with Trey Lance as QB". He stated his opinion, period. And btw, color is not an opinion.

Yorks stole the team from Eddie if you're looking for the source.

Color is an opinion/subjective. I can say something is a different shade of color and you can say it isn't. No different than art.

like I said you can have an opinion on whatever, can't get upset when someone calls it ridiculous, which in this case it absolutely is.

It's grueling. Has nothing to do with QB. You fight and you fight and get to brink twice and can't get across the line. To say it's because of Trey has to be one of the most comical posts yet. I can't believe the dislike for OUR QB that was handpicked by folks that know a whole hell of a lot more about football than anyone could even dream about in this forum. They knew it would take time. Get over it.

Trent is getting to mid-30s now. To play at his level is draining. I'm sure it's hard to go the length a couple years in a row. Maybe he sees Mike leaving and the line taking a growth hit. Maybe he's concerned about a number of things. None of it Trey.

Joe S similar. Some injuries but the grind was enough for him to walk away.
