Will our offense be different with Lance?

Created a thread for this so that the Danny Gray thread doesn't continue this conversation.

Someone said that there has been ZERO indication of our offense changing because Shanny built this team exactly how he wants it and I guess the presumption is we will see more of the same with Lance under center vice Jimmy. I disagree. I think the biggest trade in franchise history for Lance himself IS indication that not only does Shanny want a change but will in fact field a different offense then we've seen since his tenure. I think it will and always will be run first/dominant but with the added element of Trey for 11 on 11 football, Jimmy can't and hasn't done that. I think we will see more of the field used, in particular more deep shots and passes outside the numbers. I won't predict pass attempts as was asked in the other thread because IMO that is decided game to game and the scoreboard/defense plays a part in that; but gun to my head I actually think we won't have to pass as much (attempts) due to our run game being better and the deep shots hit or even missed to keep defenses honest. Jimmy hardly even did that. I do expect more pass interference calls then we ever had with Jimmy to go up for that alone. I don't expect all this in essentially Treys rookie season or first as a starter, but I know how it is here and Treys first year will be compared to Jimmy's entire time. Whatever; end of day I think we will see a different offense and we will see that this year granted Trey is the starter

Bak bak bak bak.

PS: The zero indication was referencing THIS off season knowing Trey is the new starter.

Okay just for you man

I actually think the (attempts) will be less since it's Treys first year starting and I think our run game will be added too and better with him under center.

Pass attempts 480
Rush 520

of course both is ish lol

Of course it will look different. Pass/rush attempts is not what determines if an offense is different. We have to look at the style of plays being called. When was the last time Jimmy had an RPO that had him either throw a bubble screen or run it up the middle himself?

Jimmy's most recent game, which is very similar to his other games, versus Lance's two starts. We can see where on the field each QB prefers to throw the ball. Small sample in Lance's case, but that's all we got at the moment. They are nearly polar opposites.

Okay, THIS off-season… Was the drafting of Danny Gray for him to be a ghost route specialist that won't see any deep targets? Jimmy hardly ever even attempted any, even if for nothing else than to back the defense up. I think Trey will and drafting Gray indicates that for me.

Hmmmm wonder if the play calls are the same (same offense) but just that the QB makes a difference in this

That's possible to figure out but it would take time and study. If I'm a DC and I see this, I'd definitely adjust accordingly.

I think the offense will be different depending on Trey's development. You will still have a strong run component. I think it will look a lot like the '94 Steve Young offense, considering (in my view) Steve Young's athleticism and Trey's athleticism is very similar. Now whether Trey is as accurate and consistent a passer as Steve Young, only time will tell. I will predict this: the offense at the beginning of the 2022 season will not look anything like the offense at the end of the season -- if Trey develops as I expect, in terms of passing efficiency.

A player like Gray has been missing in this offense since Goodwin. Even Garoppolo would benefit from that skill set (that was his #1 receiver then too - 962 yards).

But to Thl's point, and yours, how often he's deployed (snaps), is the primary, where, and how he's deployed and utilized might end up being different now. And his presence and role 'should' continue to help release others too by stressing coverages, even in ghost routes.

It's gonna be pass first with an emphasis on the deep ball

More deep passes down field and more scrambling.
