I heard they can get out of the contract with minimal cap implications after 2026. If they keep him beyond that they can't get out of it without a big cap hit. Purdy needs to play well the rest of this season and next year or they may very well move on.
There are no outs in the contract.
Such a dumb contract. He was not the QB to give that kind of money to. Hopefully they can somehow surrounded him will elite guys at the skill positions again if they want to replicate 2023.
I'm sure you have more information on the situation than the team...
Nonstop overreactions here. Some of you are just complaining to just complain. It's happening with Purdy. It will happen with Mac. Only solution is to find an elite QB like Mahomes/Allen and that's not easy to do and would require a lot of roster and coaching turnover...in which case you'd be complaining about the rest of the roster and the coaching.
Wait.. you don't think any teams have ever given out bad contracts? Every contract the 49ers have ever done has 100% of the time worked in their favor?
You're giving up on Purdy awfully early. Let the young guy take some lumps. He's still a guy that has proven to be an upper echelon QB over large stretches of his career.
For whatever reason too many fans lack any semblance of patience or perspective. They are like weather vanes that point to whatever direction the wind blows.
Like I said, I don't think Purdy is a terrible NFL quarterback. I think he's definitely an NFL caliber QB. I would put him in the top 20. I was in the camp early on that thought the players around him were making him look substantially better than he was. Last year gave more proof to that. He's essentially had one really really good year and then one OK year it would've been nice if the team would've given him another year to find out what he is rather than committing that much money to him. I just want a franchise quarterback, and I feel like this team is never gonna have a franchise quarterback. Haven't had one since Stevie Young. I honestly can't remember the last time a 49ers quarterback, elevated the people around him not the other way around. Maybe Garcia?
You are absolutely prematurely labeling Purdy. His first season and a half, he was an elite QB, last season he was good (not great), this season is TBD due to an injury. No one of consequence in the league would give up on a young guy who is the current all-time league leader in QB rating. That's simply an unrealistic position.
You may end up being right about Purdy. He may be just another guy at the end of the day. He may never replicate the success he had over his first two seasons. But you also could just as easily be wrong. No one has a crystal ball, so why choose to join the children in sharpening your pitchforks. It's just a dumb group to lend your voice.
