From the beginning of last season, I was on the "play Trey from day 1" train. But what Purdy is doing is demonstrably better than any Niners QB has done during the Shanahan era.
Any offseason talk is irrelevant, other than the fact that Purdy shows that Jimmy is redundant and expensive. It also seems unlikely for the FO to pursue another QB in FA.
Our QB's going into 2023 season will be Purdy and Lance. Unless Purdy wins a SB and/or continues on this pace to the SB but loses while putting up a huge game (like Josh Allen last year), it'll be a competition.
We'll have two very promising young QBs and the money to play Bosa, etc.
And people are complaining??
The Niners are in a great QB situation this year, but it would be unfair to either Trey or Purdy to ride the bench. One of them needs to be traded in the offseason for a 1st or 2nd round pick based on Jimmy's value when he commanded a 2nd when he only had 2 starts under his belt.
Neither one will be traded, especially if Purdy helps this team win it all.
If Purdy wins #6, I'm sure Saleh will be on the line offering a 1st and Wilson for Trey, and the Niners would listen.
I'm not sure Wilson and a 1st is worth the dead cap and downgrade at backup. You've seen how our QBs get hurt every year. We need a backup who isn't a guaranteed loss. Also, I'm also pretty sure Saleh is going to be sending roses to Jimmy in the off-season.
Jimmy isn't a good fit for Mike LeFleur's offense as he lacks mobility and doesn't make plays down the field. At this point in his career, he's nothing more than a bridge QB to help establish a winning culture, not a someone who'll make the Jets contenders who'll hurt them past Miami, NE, Bills or KC to become contenders.
The frick you talking about? LeFleur was literally our passing coordinator for four of Jimmy's years here.
lol.. Yeah I think Saleh would be happy with a Jimmy and Mike White situation.
We'll see though. If Tom Brady doesn't retire, I could see the Jets trying to get him.
The Shanahan offense is a run heavy scheme reliant on play action and downfield shots. Shanahan has gotten away from that more each year to accommodate Jimmy's strengths and weaknesses. He's a dink and dunk passer more suited to Josh McDaniel's short passes to the slot receiver scheme.
Both Lance and Purdy have run Shanahan's real offense.
Gotta disagree there. Even in Atlanta Kyle would only set up a couple deep shots a game. He's an inverted WCO. Run to set up the 93% short to intermediate zone passing. Calculated. Safe. Controlled. TOP.
He doesn't go after Tyreek Hill players. He goes after short-area-quickness YAC monsters. It's been no different with Brock...a couple set-up calculated deeper shots per game. The rest is all < 15.
I do agree Jimmy might be better suited for McDaniels system though in a spread system because of his lack of mobility.
Kyle for the most part had QB's that can push the ball down the field. We even saw it with Lance some and now with Purdy. Jimmy just wouldn't take those chances, and it would be stupid of Kyle to force Jimmy to do something he's not comfortable at.
Kyle is now able to use the whole field and it's making a difference.
As far as speed WRs goes, Goodwin had his best year by far as a 49er and he did just draft Gray. BA is a guy who can do it all, and has very good speed.
The tape doesn't lie, stop trying to push this narrative that Kyle wants to have a very conservative play book. It's really silly now.
You guys are so obsessed with deep shots. As YAC already demonstrated, we were at 9% with Jimmy and 7% with Brock. The 9% was at Mahomes attempts.
No HC is going to live beyond that low %. And every HC is going to set up a couple deep shots per game no matter their personnel.
But he's doing it inversely here. He's not using a deep threat (because we don't have a consistent one) to open up the underneath routes. He's using CMC as a runner and short receiver to set up a couple deep shots off defenses' hyper-focus on him.
If I were you guys I'd focus far more on the 93% of our offense. That's Kyle's true bread and butter and watch how he uses that to set up your 1-2 ESPN highlight shots off that.
Yes. We are taking less deep shots with Purdy but are connecting more often than with Jimmy. We are actually attacking the 10-19 yard range more with Purdy and with better results than with Jimmy. Jimmy was better at the 0-10 yard range than Purdy has been and they are about the same with passes behind the LOS.
Yup. The only real difference I see is dudes like Tyler Kroft and Ray-Ray McCloud aren't dropping balls right in their chest. One or two catches and the numbers would be nearly identical esp. because the volume is so low overall (not league-wide). 7-9% is pretty high.
The other thing I see is defenses have now seen CMC extensively in SF now. And there's good reason defenses are hyper-focused on him and Kyle clearly has taken notice and is using that to take safer deep shots.
I think the more Kyle and Brock can take advantage of that, the better!
PS: This topic is in response about who Kyle is as a HC/OC. His philosophy. Not about Jimmy vs. Brock.

The offense looks more efficient and better overall with Purdy at the helm.
I think JG did a solid job this season, but It's clear that Purdy has been the better QB of the two this year.

The offense was already top 2 to 3 under Jimmy it stayed that way under Purdy
edit: this isnt coming as anti-Purdy i am saying they are playing exactly the same from an efficiency standpoint. In fact the yards/play is less than half a yard less from Jimmy to Purdy started games (ignoring dolphins game) but its more impressive that Purdy has done this as a rookie for sure
