QB Brock Purdy Thread

What it appears like to me is we have people for whatever reason now not wanting Trey to even be in consideration to compete for the job next year. That is wild when we know Trey was drafted as a raw project that needed to sit a year or maybe even 2 as even stated by Jed York! Brock obviously came prepared to compete in this league with the work ethic experience and the skill set to boot. We knew Trey was gonna take time and game reps is probably best but he was so raw year 1 he needed to sit and watch. He will compete this offseason and he may again have to sit and watch as he is now

I personally want to win the chip this year then after that I am gonna trust coach even more and because he will have won he will have the cachet to hold a QB competition as the fan base will be more apt to gladly tolerate it. Winning a chip buys one more leeway

It'll be a competition next offseason. And at this time, Brock is QB1. We'll see how lance responds to adversity.

OK.

There will be if only one for the sake of optics. Trey was drafted to be the franchise. He will get a shot at it this offseason vs Brock. That does not mean he will make up any ground there but he will compete just like all of our guys compete and coach will go with the guy he believes gives him the best shot at winning going forward. That is just the way I see it going down because Brock was not drafted number 1 overall and then is playing like he is playing. Because so much was spent on Trey he will compete because they need to see if he can become the Josh Allen or even Jalen Hurts of the future. If he can't beat out Brock this summer he will hold the clipboard and run the scout team just as Brock has

You could be right. I could be wrong. I say that because I AM, often wrong. I just don't see it.

You are right that the 49ers spent A LOT of draft capital to get Trey. They annointed him as "QB of the future." Shanahan groomed him for that role. But, while we agree on that point, I see a different outcome. If Purdy leads the 49ers to a Super Bowl Championship, there's no way Shanahan will ever sit him. There will be no competition for the starting QB job either.

So, what do you do with Trey? As you correctly pointed out, and I agree with you, the 49ers spent a lot of draft capital to get the guy. They spent so much capital that putting him on a sideline with a clipboard would be an ENORMOUS waste of resources. So, I see a trade. This kid came out of college with a tremendous upside. He still has a tremendous upside. I think the 49ers shop Trey to the highest bidder.

Only thing that's certain is he's QB1 for the rest of the 2022 season….I'm all for competition. I'm against anyone calling Lance a bust based off 100 passing attempts that's all.

I predict you will be wrong because there's this thing of getting commensurate value. Right now Trey hasn't done enough to get what we think he's worth in any trade. Add to that if we can't get what it'd take in any trade then we have Jimmy G situation all over again

Did we not believe them when they said we don't just give away starting QBs? We kept Jimmy and let him back up Trey. The same thing is gonna happen with Trey if he loses out to Brock unless someone backs up the Brinks truck.

John and Kyle have proven they're always gonna do what's best for the team and not for any individual player. My senses tells me they're be a competition and we've got our guys!

It isn't Lance hate as much as it is the reality that Brock Purdy is clearly the best QB option right now.

Between him and Johnson? Well yea. Not sure what that has to do with Lance tho

dj43 clearly meant Purdy >>> healthy Lance

Exactly. Nothing will be handed to him rightfully so. Brock got his shot and he's rocking it so I want him to keep it up. Then when we get to the off-season it's game on once again so neither guy takes the summer off and sharpen each other

I like what Pete Carroll used to say. "Compete compete compete!"

Purdy is playing much better than the healthy Lance I saw early this year but now next season remains to be seen. In the meantime we have business this season to attend to. We have the luxury to not have to browse Walter Football and draft projections unlike the vast majority of the NFCW fans

Agree , but also think next year Kyle is going to train Trey up to make him the best QB he can be. But necessarily to take over as our QB of the future but to learn. Trey has to come to a realization that Brock waited, learned, and stepped up when he got his shot. Much respect to him for being humble and exceeding all expectations. Trey needs to continue his schooling and experience in ShannyU and either be steps up someday with our team, or he gets a real opportunity via trade or FA.

Trey played in rain that SET ****ING RECORDS for the city of Chicago that day. 4th quarter was non-playable and 3rd quarter rain falling super hard when the Niners had the football. I was there sitting in that sh** all day.

First half 10 points of offense and Deebo fumbled early at the Bears 7 yard line preventing the opportunity for another TD to give us 17 in that first half. Trey made some elite tight window throws in the first half when the rain was somewhat manageable and missed one big throw to Kroft. 13 3rd down conversions...9 converted with his legs and Brock or Jimmy def not doing that either.

Quit making excuses for your guy. At the beginning of the game, there was very little rain. Lance missed two layups - one to Kroft and one to Deebo. One was a TD and the other would have kept a drive alive. Call them a lack of experience or whatever, but don't blame them on the rain. The rain had no influence on the first half. Had Lance hit those throws, and a couple of others, we would be sitting on the #2 seed and two home playoff games now. If you are going to condemn JG, condemn Lance on the same basis.

We will agree that we now have a quality QB that looks capable of a deep playoff run.

Had Deebo not fumbled at the 7 yard line we have 17 points in the first half despite the missed throw to Kroft or one to Deebo. That's excellent output in the weather conditions before they became legit unplayable in the 4th quarter.

And I was in that rain you have no ****ing clue what it was like in the first quarter. The TV broadcast camera does not capture the actual level of rain.

And you just love those deep playoff runs with nothing to show for it like Jimmy gave us as the liability he was. I want more than a deep playoff run amd I have zero doubt if Trey did not get injured we'd be set for a deep playoff run all the same with 17 starts under his belt. That ass the WHOLE DAMN POINT of Trey - provides at least the same level of scoring output as Jimmy right out of the gates and then by Week 17 he is at a level that can win the Super Bowl.

Let's see who's starting next year - I'm good with either but the crowning of Brock and proclaiming him starting QB for a decade and trading Lance after a few games is reactionary and insane.

But hey if Brock is so good he'll be able to beat Trey out next year like he did Sudfeld. I'll support whoever Shanaham picks between the two since it won't be Jimmy thank God.
Just think that a rookie is playing this well in this league after getting his first game action in like week eleven or some ish? Unbelievable!

Right!

Trey learned some things from Jimmy and now he can learn things from Brock. Brock is the epitome of what you look for in a draft pick and a rookie player. In fact he exceeds this

It is unbelievable. One of the coolest stories in the NFL this season. Not only is it helping us avoid a potentially handicapped season this year, but it's another avenue to continued contention going into the future. It's really exciting.

I agree that I believe in Trey just as I do in Brock. It's because of Treys character and work ethic. Coach doesn't draft him this highly with so little experience if he didn't think the world of him. I'm trusting coach to figure this out so I don't have to

I like the Purdy QB1, Jimmy QB2 look going into the playoffs. Much more comfortable than exchanging any one of them for Lance, who I think would totally negate this playbook if he was ready to go postseason…
