That team will be looking for a QB again in three years.

I give props to Nix for improving from his time at Auburn where he looked undraftable to playing much better at Oregon but he is still a guy with happy feet who lacks anticipation and doesn't have anything resembling elite QB traits. He's a thicker, less talented Baker Mayfield. I'd take him in the 3rd or 4th round with the idea of developing him into a long term backup.

I got to see him live at the Pac12 championship here in Vegas. He was not impressive, basically another Jimmy g

I heard he's a check down charlie
The worst argument is wgen people say "Take away CMC and Deebo and who is Brock Purdy"

Yes taking away a QB's best weapons and they will struggle. Who is Mahomes if you take away Kelce? Look how much Mahomes is struggling this season with the lack of weapons. Take away Lamb and who is Dak? Take away Kupp and Nacua and who is Stafford? Take away Smith and Brown and who is Hurts? etc etc.

Exactly. It's pure comedy 🤡

I love how the narrative flipped from "you can give Mahomes anything to play with and he'll still be incredible!" to "What do you expect? Mahomes doesn't have any help!"

Kelce is still playing at a high level but their OL play and WR play takes a hit and suddenly Mahomes is on the sidelines losing his s**t.

Nix is FAR more athletic and mobile in the pocket than Jimmy. This is not a good comparison.

Dont get me wrong, I don't think he'll be great in the NFL (like Penix will), but Nix is just as talented if not more than Mayfield. Nix was a 5 star recruit and started in the SEC as a freshman. You're kidding yourself if you think he's some type of weak armed walk on.

And he sucked.

I think best case scenario, Nix is Dak Prescott. I can see him being that kind of QB given that he ends up in a good spot with a decent OL and has the chance to slowly dip his feet into the water.

Mahomes needs to learn how to handle failure. But I would argue that in spite of the fact that he has an aging Kelce and nothing better than a WR4 (which might be generous) at any of his WR positions, he is still playing at a high level and carrying that offense. They have a mediocre running game and they are 9th in the league in scoring. Thats because of Mahomes. I think when someone says "Mahomes can win with anyone as his WRs" that people mean he can win with any legitimate NFL WR corps. He doesnt have that.

Parsons was praising Purdy earlier this year too, what a strange dude

I know Jonny will have his breakdown soon.. but was hoping images would have popped up already on Twitter to show what Purdy was seeing out there.

I posted this in the game thread, decent short breakdown of the Ravens defensive approach.

Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald didn't have their linebackers mug as much as they usually do and brought pressure from the edges. The Ravens didn't want to make it easy for the 49ers to gash them in the middle of the field with hot throws. On the third play of the game, they had linebacker Roquan Smith mug the line and blitz and they got burned for a 58-yard pass to George Kittle. After that play, MacDonald seemed to adjust and went away from their usual style of play.

Stephens described Purdy as a "spot thrower" and said that they just needed to be in the spots that he likes to throw to based on film. I believe he means that Purdy is an anticipation thrower and he's going to throw with anticipation into windows that he believes will open based on the coverage. Though Macdonald deserves a lot of credit for his play calling, he had the Ravens prepared to capitalize on Purdy's tendencies.

The 49ers line up in a lot of compressed formations, which shortens the distance that corners have to travel for blitzes. This was actually a pretty impressive read by Purdy to see the blitz coming. The free safety only slightly moved outside to get on top of Deebo Samuel (top of the screen) right before the snap. The play call was a run but Purdy saw the blitz coming and wanted to throw a "now" route to Samuel.

"If he realizes it's a corner blitz, I know the quarterback is going to go to a 'now' with no one being outside," Stephens said. "I just timed up the jump and gave our guy Marlo a chance to make a play on the ball."

Technically, Purdy made the right read and play but Stephens did a great job of tipping the pass and Humphrey, who was blitzing from the other side, made a play on the ball.

Could be a problem if teams starting doing this

It's pretty simple...if Mahomes is struggling with his group, what would any other QB do? Now, I do think Mahomes isn't seeing the field as well as usual, and he's not getting all the calls he typically gets (still more than any other QB though), but I dunno if any other pivot performs better if they are a Chief.

You need the personnel to do that. If every team could do that, every team would. If a defense that doesn't have guys like Kyle Hamilon and Roquan combined with an effective pass rush decides to gamble by just playing ground and not the receiver then they end up getting beat badly.

Exactly what I have been thinking why are these players bashing on Brock. I have never seen nor heard it to the extent some of these players are carrying it to. Makes no sense.

Meh, Baldy's "breakdowns"..I don't learn s**t from them, and take away nothing from them, to be frank. I can go on NFL+ and watch the game again and learn just as much lol. Del's are much better. 👍

Basically, 9ers got outcoached/outplayed In every facet of the game.

Niners had more rushing yards, total yards and avg more yards per play…literally it came down to TOs and a couple of those were tipped balls that just landed in their hands.

if you told me they'd go 4-1 in that stretch, I would be very happy. s**t happens it's a long season.

Yes exactly.
