QB Brock Purdy Thread

Lamar Jackson has 17 TD's. Not an MVP year. Now tell me how many Brock_STAR has? I'll wait.

You know who else the piper is going to come for? Lamar Jackson. When he gets some age and loses a step he won't be the same player. He also can get injured like RG3 who was never the same. His style of play won't last forever.

At least for a third string developmental guy that is easy on the cap. As of now, we have 1 QB under contract next year. I think we may resign a guy (maybe even darnold if he's enjoying his time here) and then have our third stringer be a development guy on the cheap contract.

I think a lot of the fans expectations got clouded as far as depth at the position based on what we did last offseason. We signed a fairly expensive backup (and offered incentives) because of Purdy's injury and the fact that Trey was unplayable. Provided Brock makes it through the season healthy, I think we invest minimally at the backup spots going forward. A dirt cheap vet (hopefully Darnold if his market is dry) and a rookie. The same plan we had at the beginning of '22 offseason (Sudfeld/Purdy)

Yeah, we spent a lot of backup QBs - very abnormal amount, for the reasons you said. We also had some extra cap room this year. Going forward, a few mil will be critical and investing it at that position usually isn't the greatest bang for your buck.

darnold will most likely be too expensive for us, unless he's just finally having a great time and loves it here.

we will see how it plays out but I also expect it to be a minimally invested position now that we are much more certain of QB1 going forward (assuming he's healthy).

i think we draft a guy for sure though

I love Brock but I cannot believe how many comments Montana, Young, Brees, God. Let's give him a few years to form a true picture.

This is the best offensive roster we have had since I was a kid. It's insane. When the piper comes calling due to age or cap issues let's see how we are looking.

I bet fine in the future but we are way too early in with Brock with a unique generational SQUAD. I bet Trent last year this year. What happens when he needs replacement. What happens if no Brandon? I fear he lands in KC if we can't pay him. They are desperate need.

Brock has been outstanding with an outstanding generational offense. The real test will come. How about just enjoying the ride over Brock is this. Brock is that. He said this. He said that. It's insane.

Brock's two greatest strengths are his ability to see the whole field and find the open guy, second is his anticipation. Without these skill players, there may not always be an open guy. But I think Purdy is elite in that respect. He may not be able to make all the insane sideline throws like Aaron Rodgers or have the arm strength to make the throws in the tightest spaces, but he is an elite distributor of the ball. Clearly he wouldn't be able to do what Josh Allen does in Buffalo, but I'm also not sure Allen would be able to see the whole field like Purdy does in San Francisco.

This has been mentioned before, but very few QBs coming out of college had the starting experience that Purdy had. Shanahan mentioned recently that some QBs have traits that are developed and unlocked through extensive experience, that's obviously Purdy. Purdy started 46 games in college, I wonder how close that is to a record. He also played in probably the third best conference in the country.

This team is almost too good and we haven't see Purdy very much in difficult circumstances in the 4th quarter. The three game losing streak comes to mind. He played well enough, particularly on the last drive, to put the team in position to win in Cleveland. He played poorly vs Minnesota. He had a lot of yards vs Cincinnati, but turned the ball over.

We can hope, but probably not get, the kind of discount that Tom Brady would give the Patriots so he could have a better team around him, but who knows.

No lies spoken here

True, no lies, but it does strategically ignore the fact that Jimmy had this same squad for five games and scored 8.1 points per game less than Brock with the same "generational offense." We can at least conclude that Brock is better than Jimmy in roughly the same way that 2022 Mahomes is better than 2022 Daniel Jones (since there was an 8 points per game differential between them). Or if that talent difference bothers you, perhaps 2022 Mahomes vs 2022 Geno Smith: only a 5.3 point differential. Either way, it's clear, regardless of how good Purdy truly is, he's at least an entire tier better than 2022 Jimmy G.

EDIT: Not knocking Jimmy. I'm pointing out that we had a decent, probably better than average QB in Jimmy, and Brock is at least an entire tier better, and it's unreasonable to argue otherwise.

More likely he's one of the many guys who never though Purdy had a chance to even make a roster, who is too lazy to watch every game but decides he will have an opinion on them because that's his job now, or is too stubborn to admit he was wrong. My guess is he'll tell you Josh Allen is a top 5 guy without hesitation.

yea when athletes lose a step, they generally arent the "same" player. He can improve in other areas as he loses athleticism tho. You happen to think he will not. We will see.

I doubt it. He's not that great from the pocket and he played for years now. Purdy is better there as a 2nd year player.

I thought maybe is was a whitey thing for RobiDouche but it's definitely not anywhere else. I'm sorry but IMO I would rather have Purdy than Lamar any day of the week. He's a better QB and Lamar is a better runner. If anyone is saying Lamar is the MVP let's see after Xmas day. As for Robidouche, he's just bitter because we did not want him back after his contract expired.

Not that I really give a f**k about MVP, for the last 15-20 years it has gone to the best qb on one of the best teams. Lamar has a lot of catching up to do to match what the voters seem to value most, stats on a good team.

Definitely. NFL teams love a fad. You'll see a lot more QBs that would otherwise have gone undrafted going in the 6th and 7th rounds.

excuse me is that a 6 foot nothing white boy with a so so arm? lets move up and take him
