Every time I watch him play I become more confident in what his future will look like and that's him developing into a true top 5 QB when he reaches his prime. He just sees the field differently than most QBs. His field awareness and processing is next level and he's only going to get better with more experience. I hate comparing him to anyone because he'll be his own guy, but it's exciting to know that he shares so many similar traits with some of the greats who played before him.

If anyone still isn't sold on what you're seeing, I honestly don't know what to say to you. If Alex Smith started his career like Brock Purdy, everyone would've crowded him by his second season, but people seem hesitant only because Brock came out of nowhere and had no hype. One was the first pick in the draft and the other was the last, so it's like your heart is telling you be cautious, when your brain is telling you to trust your eyes. He's HIM.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I honestly think that there's a media vendetta against Purdy succeeding and it's much deeper than you would think:

A lot of the narrative seems to be "oh sure, he's done well, but he's not super physically gifted, he was drafted last for a reason, and if he were on any other team he wouldn't be nearly this good." And I think the narrative is that way because many front offices are trying to push it. There are tons of scouts and GM's across the league who could get fired if Purdy turns into a franchise quarterback. Imagining having to explain to your owner and fanbase why you could've had Purdy not once, not twice, but SEVEN times but you picked X, Y and Z who haven't contributed anything instead.

I am NOT saying Purdy will be Brady, but the same exact narrative was getting pushed for Brady from 2001-2006 as well—"eh Brady is more of a system quarterback, not physically gifted, and went in the 6th round for a reason. If it weren't for the Patriots and Belichick he wouldn't be that great."

You're exactly right, Purdy put up a record passer rating last season for a rookie. Not just decent. Not just good or even great. A RECORD passer rating of 111.4. Good supporting cast or not, if he were a 1st round pick, everyone would undoubtedly be saying the 49ers found their guy. But because he went last, the doubt is still baked into the narrative.

agreed; there is a reason for this but the mods won't let us discuss the issue openly on here for good reason

I am pleasantly surprised he is 100% and ready to go. Hopefully he can build off of last seasons success.

Purdy looked good in his 7 starts but I don't put much faith in passer rating. It's not really a good way to measure the overall success of a QB. Example: JG went 4 for 4 with no TDs and about 60 yards. He had a passer rating higher than Darnold or Trey this week even though they had far more pass completions and attempts and some rushing yards. They both had a D pass yet they ended up with a passer rating around 93 because they each had an INT. Both INTs were tipped passes. Darnold's was right in the hands of the receiver and Trey's was tipped at the line.

Bottom line passer rating sucks. It was a stat that some fantasy boy created.

Anyway, Purdy's arm looks fine so he's ready to go. No need to play him in the final game.
Kid looked pretty darn good imo. Missed a TD to Jennings that Lance would have been crucified for, but overall he's QB1 and looks healthy to me

I wouldn't mind putting him out there for a series.

I wouldn't either but Trey needs all the reps he can get. We aren't going to learn anything about Brock if he plays a series or two.

At this point Trey and Sam will both be on the roster, they don't even need to declare who's the backup with the 3 QB rule.

Brock is QB1 and should get a couple more live reps imo. It's not like he's a seasoned vet or anything. Then toss Lance/Sam in the rest of the game

Yep, I say give Purdy a series or 2 and then go next with Lance and then finally Darnold.
Purdy is a beast amongst the meager

Kyle already said the starters will play in the final game, I assume it'll be like 2 series or so. Just try to get them into some action before week 1.

I expect Lance will then be the first guy up and play the remainder of the half. Depending on how many reps he gets (how the drives go), may play a little after half time. Then sam will take it after that. That's my thought on it

I think that's what the line will be like. IMO. Shanahan did say he wanted to give Darnold and Lance equal reps/playing time.

Oh FFS, the reason is because the guy was the last pick in the draft and people are playing the odds that he had a short burst of success when no one had any significant tape on him.

If he keeps playing at a high level and even wins a SB then people will be all over his nuts but until then he has to prove that what we saw last year wasn't a mirage.

And no one is getting fired if Purdy indeed proves out be a stud. Even the 49ers initially were ready to let him go to UDFA before changing their mind late. Just like the Patriots had zero clue that Brady would be anything worthwhile which is why they waited not just until the 6th round to take him, but making him the third player they took in that 6th round.

Sometimes you take a flyer on a guy and it pays off in a huge way. That's just how it goes.

i would've been happier if Brock had thrown a TD instead of getting us 3 points hopefully that doesn't translate in this year we need TD's not FG's can't rely just yet on this 🦵 Kicker Moody
