The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 has been announced, and former San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore, one of the most durable and consistent players ever to take the field, isn't among the list of inductees. This was his first year of eligibility.
While Gore was passed up for the honor, another great 49ers running back was not. Roger Craig, whose absence from the Pro Football Hall of Fame has been questioned for years, will finally be inducted.

The 49ers selected Gore in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft following a collegiate career at Miami (FL). Despite entering the league with concerns about his longevity after suffering two ACL injuries in college, Gore went on to produce one of the most remarkable careers in NFL history at the running back position.
Gore silenced early doubts by becoming the first rookie in 15 years to lead the 49ers in rushing. Over 16 NFL seasons, he rushed for more than 16,000 yards—trailing only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton on the NFL's all-time list—while earning five Pro Bowl selections, a second-team All-Pro selection, and a spot on the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.
He finished his career with 81 rushing touchdowns, 19,985 scrimmage yards (fourth-most in NFL history), and 18 receiving touchdowns. Gore remains the 49ers' all-time leading rusher with 11,073 yards, comfortably ahead of Hall of Famer Joe Perry (8,689).
After his legendary tenure in San Francisco, Gore continued his career with the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and New York Jets. He recorded nine 1,000-yard rushing seasons, cementing his legacy as one of the most reliable and durable running backs the NFL has ever seen.
