Exactly, to comeback from where we were and make it to the conference championship was a great feat. I'm proud of my boys.
Exactly as everyone has said here. This team rebounded from the most unfortunate of starts to end up having a knee excellent finish flaws and all they gave us a helluva season and I hope they take time to reflect on what they've done

Go Niners!
I'm so glad to be 49ers fan, I was able to witness 49ers win the trophy when I was a child and I still remember it. It would make me just so DAMN GOD DAMN HAPPY if I could witness it right now when I'm MATURED. Any who I love the team's GRIT and FAMILY type atmosphere they have here. We overachieved this year in my opinion and glad for the 49ers to give me all those roller coaster emotions I wouldn't have it any other way! GO 49ERS!! quest for 6!!

I posted in the Kyle thread, but yeah I think it deserves its own.

I join you in being incredibly proud of our team and our coach, the future is bright.

Same here, I'm proud of John, Kyle, DeMeco, the entire team, they did a great job after so many fans & media members wrote them off, sucks to not get to the SB, but, it was a success IMO, saw Deebo emerge as one of the best players in the league, Bosa is clearly BACK, Aiyuk proved himself, JJ showed he's a very good 3rd WR, Armstead is a beast, Ward looks like a top tier Safety, Laken had a great yr, and Elijah & Ambry looked really good. Now onto the Trey Lance era, just hoping we can keep Laken & DJ, I'd love Arden, Willis also back, wouldn't mind Tartt & K'Waun back, yeah K'Waun struggled against Davante & Kupp, but he does very well against most WRs, if not, then I'm all for Lenoir taking over, or signing someone.

Great post AB, how would you rank the importance of the impending free agents?

You didn't mention Verrett, would you try a cheap 1 year prove it deal?

I have 6 free agents I feel could get multi-year deals, I'd list them like this.

Laken Tomlinson
D.J. Jones
Arden Key
K'Waun Williams
Jordan Willis
Jeff Wilson Jr.

I think we can get Compton back on a vet minimum 1yr deal.

I have Laken #1 due to his contract voiding on February 15th.

I hope they can keep as many guys as possible, if 2021 taught us anything, with the limited cap room, they kept quite a bit of guys(Trent, Juice, Verrett, DJ, Tartt, K'Waun, etc...) plus added Mack & Ebukam.
It took me 24 hours to absorb the idea that the season went from possible super bowl to effectually over in a blink.

After the misery bug kicked, I'm able to really appreciate this season.

In preseason I fully expected SF to compete for a Super Bowl. They did.

More so, they did it in inexplicable fashion based on how the first half of the season went. It was an absolute rollercoaster.

It was torturous (nearly all of it, minus the Falcons, Jags, and first Rams game). It was befuddling (losing to Colt McCoy?). It was exciting.

There were storylines to follow. There was drama (injury drama [Verrett, Mostert, and McGlinch in particular]; QB drama, head coach drama, Aiyuk drama).

There was the emergence of guys like Al Shaair, Ambry Thomas, Juwan Jennings, Arden Key, Eli Mitchell and re-emergence of Brandon Aiyuk.

There was the rapid trajectory of Demeco Ryans from seemingly inept to formidable, aggressive innovator.

There was the biggest regular season game I've ever seen in my life--a do or die against LA, won in overtime on a rookie interception.

There were playoff victories against our vaunted 90's rivals--Dallas and Green Bay, with Green Bay's becoming an instant classic--a snow-driven defensive battle that saw no offensive touchdowns for SF.

And what made it all happen was a locker room that is as close as they come. No antics, finger pointing, rumors, or bad blood--the opposite. Most times it's cliche, but you can see it in the faces of these players when they talk about one another and how special the group is. I've never seen a 49ers team this close knit. Maybe the galvanizing year of 2011 when Harbaugh came in but it's still not really comparable.

And a lot of that is due to Jimmy Garoppolo. Say what you want about his ability...it's all been said and argued. No one can argue that man's leadership, class, mettle, toughness, and mental fortitude. He handled this whole situation better than anyone could have. And regardless of his limitations, no one can question his dedication and willingness to lay it all on the line...all the more impressive to do it while knowing an organization actively wanted to move on from him and drafted his replacement. I think that aspect of Garoppolo is what will be sorely missed the most. And while it doesn't show up on the stat sheet, you hear every player talk about how they want to go to battle for him...there could be no better example and mentor for Trey Lance than watching Jimmy Garoppolo gut it out this season.

So my puddle of despair has transformed into a reflection pool of just how incredible this season was. In many ways, more impressive than 2019 or the Harbaugh years when everything came easy or was expected from the get go.

Absolutely no one expected them to do this at 3-5. I wondered if they'd win another game. I wondered it the wheels were falling off organizationally.

Buckle up. 2022 is going to be another hell of a ride.
They went a long way from 3 - 5. It's kind of remarkable.

💯

I know right. I was born in 88. Their last SB was when I was 6. I was rockin niners gear because of my dad, but I didn't become a real fan until I was about 9 after the 98' Catch 2 game. From there on I was hooked.

I think this is obvious, but I still think Kyle hasn't assembled his ultimate team yet. What I mean by that is, Andy Reid almost made his in Philly after losing all those NFCCG's there when they acquired TO and other free agents. They lost the SB to the Pats, but that was his best team. Then he created a few more with Mahomes. It was the same thing with Bill Cowher. He lost oodles of playoff games and took him 20 years to win a SB. He finally got it right with a young Big Ben, Mike Wallace, Hines Ward, Polamalu, etc.

I feel that Shanahan is a really good coach and has come close to winning a SB with a Honda Civic at QBv (serviceable but not flashy), up-and-down defenses, poor special teams play (minus these last few playoff games), injuries, COVID year, etc. I think the stars will align one of these seasons and he'll win us #6.

Maybe this offseason Lynch says screw it and gets a big time FA? I know that's not our style, but players see that we are close. Their only reservation might be an unknown in Lance, but they should trust that Kyle has that under control.
I think their best game was week 18 vs the Rams:
  • Comeback from being down 17
  • Deebo doing Deebo things
    • TD Rushing, TD passing(?)
  • The drive to tie-up the game on Jennings TD. 88 yards in just over a minute.
  • Gould kicking & punting
  • Juice taking over the holder job
  • 5 sacks & 2 INTs from the Defense
    • the much maligned Ambry Thomas sealing the game with a pick
We've got ourselves a TEAM ! Any success starts with having multiple individuals come together to achieve the same goal
Thanks for the memories this playoff run left even if the ultimate goal wasn't reach.
Limitations prevented us.
Now we need to upgrade the talent on the field AND sideline… (meaning players AND coaches)

So far as I can tell the best team in the NFC this year was the Pack, and in the AFC the Chiefs. And neither of them made it. You need a bit of luck as well as talent etc. The best team I saw was the '85 team and they didn't make it either. So, gutted as I felt, I am not interested in blaming anyone or b***hing about it. It happened. We will be back.
