that's a start. Too bad we traded for Lance instead of niner fan RB Najee Harris . That's just hindsight tho.

bruh, do you even watch the games? lmao. Armstead has been killin it this year

Not so much entire year but certainly the last 5-6 games. AA's issue is the cheap money of his deal is coming to an end this year. His Cap number is $20 million or higher the next three seasons. 3-6 Sacks per year is not going to cut it for that kind of money IMO.

Sacks aren't everything, he does way more than that, he's earned his salary, no reason to cut ties when he's been great all yr long, people need to get off the whole sack numbers, sure it's nice to see Bosa put up 15.5, but he also does more than get sacks, both are worth the money they are/will get paid.

Agree. Also just want to add that Arik's job as DT (in a sense) is to take on double teams and free up Bosa to go one on one with the OLineman. To the extent that Bosa has put up 15+ sacks means Arik's done a great job on those Double Teams. For a DT, in my book, the sack statistic isn't the only stat that I'd rely on to tell whether a DT is elite or not. Don't get me wrong, it *is* an important stat, but I think just as important is the run defense statistics - and how good the team is at stopping the run. I think that's an important stat (in addition to the sack stats) for a DT too.

Take a wild guess as to why we've been the #1 rush defense since mid season
Chiefs are now rumored to be going after Odel in the offseason. The Cap is obviously non existant. They will probally re-sign Brown who is going to want Trent Williams money, extend Hill who will probally want to be the highest paid WR. Watch them even re-sign Honeybadger also. The Salary cap is bogus based on the league rules and re-structuring and turning salary into signing bonuses etc etc. So no reason why we have to lose anybody.

Yeah money simply no issue for this club if they move on from JG that's about 26 mil and they get around that much from the cap increasing that's over $50 mil out of thin air they will receive and consider last year the Saints were $111 mil OVER the cap and simply restructured their way down under while maintaining a competitive fairly loaded squad that swept Tampa. This cap panic is I am not worried. Well done op.

Yet the Saints are $75m over the projected cap, this whole redoing & pushing the money down the road isn't gonna work for them or Bucs who have a projected $4.6m in cap room.

Tell me you don't understand the salary cap without telling me...

This solves all our cap money problems.

Yeah, I mean, getting rid of JG is more than about this year, and it's certainly about more than Bosa and Deebo. I think the OP created a specific argument in order to tear it down. That's what we call a strawman.

There are plenty of reasons to move on from JG, whether the 49ers win the SB or not. But, for the sake of this argument, let's say the 49ers win the Super Bowl, and JG is more than a passenger / copilot for the last two games. Let's say his play is out of this world. If he plays in this way, his trade value will (likely) never be higher. Sure, he could do the same thing next year, but are the odds in his favor? No. Will the rookie QB class be deeper next year, compared to this year? It certainly looks that way. Will there be more openings in the NFL for a veteran QB in 2023? Possibly. From a business standpoint, I doubt very much the 49ers pass on a sure thing, for a possibly better, though seemingly unlikely, alternative.

Also, you are now giving up on two years of a rookie QB contract. And, for all intents and purposes, it's more like three years. Because, by the time Trey sees real play time, he will be three+ years out from the last time he played both significant and considerable amounts of football. That's 60% of his rookie contract up in smoke. Again, from a business / financial standpoint, this seems like a fairly poor decision.

I see absolutely no way, barring a significant injury to Trey in the next few months, where JG remains on the 49ers' roster. The only other possibility would be if JG took a massive pay cut in order to stay. But, because I believe there is far more at stake than money, I fully believe JG has, at the very most (and hopefully) two more games as a member of the 49ers. I hope he balls out, and is the main reason #6 comes to San Francisco.

Run D is not one man. DJ Jones and his $3.5 Million dollar deal is just as impactful as AA and the rest of the Front 7 in shutting down the run this year. Our LB IMO are the biggest reason for the improvement as all of them have sideline to sideline speed, can tackle and are agressive. The issue I have is AA Cap hit is $20+ million per year over the next 3.

Is he a $20+ million dollar a year player?

He's going to be the 6th highest paid interior D lineman in the NFL next season, making more than Defo at a $16 million dollar cap hit.

You don't just discard a QB who took your team to 2 Super Bowls in the past 3 years, YOU JUST DON'T. Look how long it took the 49ers to find a good quarterback after they moved off of Jeff Garcia…

If this offseason proved anything, it's that the salary cap is essentially non existent. The fact that the Chiefs nearly signed Trent Williams in spite of all their big money players, confirms this.

They definitely will. This decision was already made last March. Jimmy and the guys already know this is their last hoorah, and have made it known.

i don't think the trade looks so bad know, we gave the 32nd-29th pick and a 3rd away this year and next years 1st rounder. which could be in the same ballpark. i dont really value those last 1st round picks too much if were competing for Championships. money is another story, but for me im losing concern about the picks at this point especially if Lance turns out to be able to walk on water as 50% of the Zone thinks he can

Imagine actually believing this is reality. SMFH.

I argued this as well. But the way he played in the 2nd half, if we get that kind of a production for a full year, then he's definitely worth that money.

It's real. For the Saints, the bill finally camp. They can be rumored to be going after Odell, but'll believe it when I see it. Odell is proving to be a very good number 2. I doubt they can give him number 2 money. Odell would have to do a huge discount to come. And although this is two years down the road, do they let Mecole Hardman go? Either way, I see cracks in the armor for Kansas City.

DeForest Buckner made far more than AA the last two years. AA got 6 sacks, which is good for a DT playing inside only half the year. If he plays to that level for a whole year, you are looking at a Pro Bowler. Dominant run defender getting 8 + sacks from the inside with constant pressure.

When you're near 20 mil in cap, yes, sacks are a huge deal. No GM worth damn is spending 20 mil on a run stuffer / take on blockers. The way he played in the first half was something you can easily find in the NFL. Now when you add his sacks and his 2nd half presence, that's what GMs pay 20 mil a year for.

AA got that contract based on his 10 sack season, if those sacks never happened, and he was just a good run stuffer, he would've been making 5 mil a year.
