As mentioned above, apparently the free version of peacock has it?

lol Young was literally league MVP. 🙄

Charles Haley got traded after he threatened Jerry Rice. It had nothing to do with which QB could control him.

who cares about mvp.. when he could not win the big game. two years in a row. oh,, charles got traded cuz he peed on the car of tim harris among other things.. you keep joe and you keep lott.. major mistake... they could have kept charles under control

This.

Yup. I loved Young but he did not play as well against the Cowboys in the playoffs. They could neutralize his scrambling and he had to throw it from the pocket more. We had to get a super team for him to get a ring.

ftfy

And Packers. And Falcons.

No offense to Joe, but if Ronnie Lott couldn't keep Haley in check - NOBODY could.
So, it sounds like carrying Rudy off the field after his sack was basically a big joke to the team.

The trade should be included on the TOP 10 worst trade ever..

The management and Seifert were more concerned on the condition of the trade that Dallas could NEVER trade Haley to the Raiders instead of looking at HOW Haley can make Dallas a complete team on the D-side of the ball..

.... and from what I remember, all we got was a 2nd rounder and a chance to SWAP 1st rounder if Dallas was drafting 1st..
I just finished watching both episodes and this is f**king fantastic!!

Since his college days you could see that he was really really good

I'll be honest, I was so upset by the trade at the time - I think I blocked out what we even got for it! Your comment made me have to look it up. So we got a 2nd and a 3rd in the deal. I was trying to track who we actually got out of the deal, but it seems pretty convoluted. Best I can tell we got the #56 and #99 picks in the 1993 draft. The #56 was ironically traded...to the Raiders. The #56 and our own 3rd rounder was traded to the Raiders for the 41st pick - which we THEN traded to the Chargers. Chargers got Natrone Means Business - and we got their 1994 1st round pick. THAT 1st round pick (15th) was traded along with ouR 2nd and 3rd, to move up to #7 and draft Bryant Young!

So basically Haley and a 2nd and 3rd, got us BY - Two years later.

I do remember the Raiders wanting Haley, and how we were adamant that trade would not happen. But to be honest, after we watched Ronnie Lott and Roger Craig leave for the Raiders through Plan B, I don't know why we were so against trading with them. They basically slit their own throat instead, by putting the Cowboys over the hump.

Absolutely. Given Dallas's position after the 1991 season, its like trading Bosa to the Bengals or some other new playoff team on the rise.

The Dismantling of Bill Walsh's 49ers could be an episode of The Timeline.

1) The 1990 NFCCG
2) The rudderless 49ers of 1991- no Joe and adjusting to Steve
3) Haley Trade
4) The Return to Greatness of 1992 and 1993 or so we thought- Can't beat Dallas
5) Super Bowl or Bust Mentality
6) Letting Ricky Watters walk
7) Loss of Coaching talent
8) Front office miscues and going against Bill
9) Overtaken by Green Bay
10) JJ Stokes trade where the pick we traded ends up being Ray Lewis
11) Jim Druckenmiller, Dana Hall, and all the other poor picks
12) Ironman Jerry Rice gets injured
13) Eddie gets busted and the transfer of ownership

So many things
I watched episode one yesterday. It focused on his high school and college career. I was surprised when I heard how close he was to quitting football and playing basketball (his first love) at ND. He actually went to Digger Phelps and told him he was going to quit football because he was tired of sitting on the bench. ND was a basketball power at the team and Phelps told him that with the players they had on the basketball team that he would probably still not start. Obviously he stayed with football but he was really good in basketball.

Peacock is showing the episodes free with a new one each week. I think if you pay for the premium version you can see them sooner and with no interruptions.
Another thing that I couldn't get over was how many times he would come off the bench to bring them out of a hole but the coach still refused to start him. His frustration was unbelievable. In the end he got the last laugh. Thank goodness Bill Walsh saw something there that the ND coaches couldn't see.

Right?

Absolutely loved how Bill brought him along and challenged him mentally to think "perfection" and taking his sweet time letting Deberg get absolutely killed and still not playing Joe until he was absolutely ready. I really think Kyle is trying to emulate that as much as possible.

Of course, back then, they had 5-a-days, super long off seasons and a HC could literally teach all the finer details like footwork tied to receiver routes, exact spots balls should be thrown with each pass (The Catch), try out plays with differing levels of mobility from the QB, timing by all esp. the OL, etc. In short, you could really groom a QB properly once you found the guy.

PS: Another interesting Jimmy-like point that Deberg and all the QB's there had way bigger arms. Joe was literally called, an, 'Average Joe.'

Haley had become such a problem that he had to go. He was later diagnose with a personality disorder that he now takes medication for. I had a personal experience with Haley in a bar and it was a little scary. He intimidated many of the players and coaches to the point that they had to make the difficult decision to trade one of the best pass rushers in team history. The peeing incident and masturbation during team meetings were the tipping points.

That had to be an agonizing decision for Seifert in particular since he was a defensive guy.
