literally everyone

I lost my voice last night lol.

Haha you got your boy! I was watching it with a couple buddies and my one fellow NY 49er fan... there was some let's gooooo shouting, high fives, maybe a bro hug and a couple victory shots

I tried to explain why Lance fits better than Fields and Jones for months but got serious backlash from it.

It was all about Lance's feet, the ability to sell the play fake, quick decision making, and his off the charts mental ability to recall his offense which was far closer to Kyle's scheme than any other QB.

I still think Fields will be a very good QB and Jones as well for that matter. But there's no doubt in my mind we made the right selection.

yeah, I just thought fields was the QB2 so I went with BPA...imo he's damn good.

never disagreed that Lance wasn't a scheme for sure...so much to like about this kid. Very excited.

jones meh whatever...best of luck. I can lol at all the Pat fans that constantly told me SF was taking jones and NE was moving up for Fields....well HA!

Lance and Kaep are completely different, yall are racist lol. They're not even similar in how they play, run or throw

Good background. It is hard to overlook the bust potential. However, the one thing Lance has over all those guys is that he is coming to a deep playoff contender with GREAT coaching and plenty of time to polish his skill set. That fact cannot be overemphasized. The only QB in recent memory that was a very high pick coming to a good team was Mahomes, and he had Alex Smith as a mentor. I don't like anointing someone as the savior before they have earned it, however, the comparison is worth considering. I like his and our chances.

Agreed. Overall, I'm very excited to see how Trey Lance's career unfolds, especially in comparison to his contemporaries. As a fan of football in general, this will be an interesting case study on finding a QB and developing him. It should give a lot of evidence for questions like:

--- How important is it that a player is given time to develop?
--- How important is it that a rookie has a good surrounding cast around him?
--- How important is the ability to improvise on off-schedule plays?
--- How does a lack of film due to the 2020 pandemic effect player evaluation?

Because when you look at this draft, you have five QB's in very different situations.
  • Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson are probably the most polished, well-rounded, but they're going to very bad teams.
  • Mac Jones is a high floor, low ceiling pocket passer, but he's going to a well-established team and coaching staff.
  • Justin Fields and Trey Lance aren't considered to be as good in the pocket, but are superlative athletes and are both said to be extremely intelligent. Fields comes from a big school. Lance comes from a small school that run a pro offense.

I hate playing the race card but forreal. lol. their playstyle is nothing alike.
Fields is not that good. Both Carolina and Denver passed on him when they had the chance. Lance is the coveted one. He would've gone 4th to the Falcons. We realized that was the case and had to move up to 3.

No. Doesn't mean anyone is racist. Let's not go there. It's just an inaccurate comp. I think a few folks see strong armed, mobile QB and Kap is the last strong armed mobile QB that was on the 49ers.

Don't. Just don't.

Whatever you say lol. Tall kid, similar skin tone, known as a runner. That's all they have in common.

It's a very lazy take...if he was white it's herbert or Allen.

The situation had changed out of necessity. At the time the trade was made, both were looking for a QB. I suspect Carolina realized the top 4 would be gone by their pick and settled for Darnold. Denver decided the draft capital was better spent elsewhere thereby giving Lock another year to develop. Had those decisions not been made, it is highly unlikely Fields would have dropped past them.

If you tell me that this doesn't remind you of Kaepernick then you lying.

They're both big, tall, athletic passers that are explosive running the ball in the open field. Both got passed over by bigger schools that wanted them to play safety. Kaepernick played for the 49ers recently, so that's going to be people's main frame of reference for a tall, big armed, athletic passer.

Beyond that, if anything, Lance is probably a lot more similar to Josh Allen as a passer. He's already more advanced than Kaepernick was coming out of Nevada.

unlike the former qb.. i think this kid is not a one trick pony. and this is the last time i will mention the former qb. this was such a perfect pick for our team as it stands right now. I hope jimmy is receptive to helping the kid and I hope jimmy has a non farve attitude and a non rodgers attitude. i can see us making clever use of lance in some games this year. I could care less about any other qb on our roster other than jimmy and trey. with trey, even with his small body of work. he already is the best back up qb we have had on our roster since alex in 2012

i sure do hope after today people get comparing trey to the former niner out of their system
i think we're forgetting about how much better someone like Lance is going to make our defense. going to be able to practice against basically a Kyle murray or any other mobile-like QB in the NFL
