Los Angeles Chargers QB Trey Lance Thread

We all know that no team has won a SB with a rookie QB. There's always a first time. It looks like they will start Jimmy and if he plays well for 8 games or so, he could get trade to a team that loses a QB dues to injury. Jimmy could also get hurt again. In either case Lance could be forced into action. If this team finally gets a little luck, they could end up back in the SB with either guy at QB. There's enough talent to overcome Jimmy's shortcomings (as we saw in 2019) or Lances inexperience. That assumes he's as bright as they say he is and he's a fast learner.

No. Doesn't mean anyone is racist. Let's not go there. It's just an inaccurate comp. I think a few folks see strong armed, mobile QB and Kap is the last strong armed mobile QB that was on the 49ers.

I mean it's not like there's zero similarities. Big arms, mobile, both 6'4" 225lbs, similar college production rushing and passing wise. Where Trey pulls away is completion percentage (accuracy is an issue but that's when compared to the other top prospects... he's far and away more accurate than Kap as a sophmore) and experience in a pro style offense. I don't wanna get carried away with the pro style stuff as it is a huge plus for Lance but he only had the one season and came from a gimmick offense in highschool. So he has a total of one season's worth of pro style experience more than Kap did coming out. Still, easy to see that that was the big separator. Trey excelled in his one season running under center plays out of a huddle. So that along with the superior accuracy to kap are the big differentiators and why Trey went #3 while Kap was a 2nd rounder.

If you tell me that this doesn't remind you of Kaepernick then you lying.

They're both big, tall, athletic passers that are explosive running the ball in the open field. Both got passed over by bigger schools that wanted them to play safety. Kaepernick played for the 49ers recently, so that's going to be people's main frame of reference for a tall, big armed, athletic passer.

Beyond that, if anything, Lance is probably a lot more similar to Josh Allen as a passer. He's already more advanced than Kaepernick was coming out of Nevada.

I definitely see the Josh Allen comparisons but I still don't think he looks like Kap in how he plays. Kap always looked nervous in the pocket. Lance looks smooth no matter what he's doing

It's a very lazy take...if he was white it's herbert or Allen.

big difference between pistol offense and pro style lol

It's the second year I'm excited for. Notable year two qbs off the top of my head... Brady won a sb, Mahomes MVP, Lamar MVP, Marino MVP, Big Ben won a sb. Anything we get in year one is a plus but year two is where I'm expecting Lance to take off.

At first glance from early and usual highlights of Lance, the Kap perception makes sense. I was guilty of that as well, but when you start watching all his games...not at all and Allen would be a better comp.

Oh and Wentz was on his way to an MVP... and Lance is a superior talent from the same system.

Yea, but what can you do?

Just rock your style and just wait til the next fad comes out.
Interesting to see what this does to Jimmy. If it lights a fire under his ass and he gets us a super bowl win we can A. Trade him for a ton of picks or B. Keep him another year and try to get another one before he goes then start Lance. Niners went from having the shakiest QB situation in the league to having the best
I like the pick a lot. He can be special. He could be one of the top 3 - 5 QB's in football in 3 - 4 years. That said he is far from a guarantee. He has a lot to develop and learn. He's coming from a lower division level. He missed a year of football and will sit for another year. He's the biggest boom or bust prospect. I hope it is boom. But we will see.

Yeah, I hope so, too - that's a terrible comparison.
