I'm sorry but that thought process is how coaches get fired because you don't draft system guys with the 3rd pick because that's how you get fired. With the 3rd pick you draft a player that can fit all systems and a player with a lot of talent and that's not Mac Jones. Mac Jones is a 2nd round talent at best. He will get someone fired!!!!! Kyle shanahan isn't this stupid that's why he will draft fields or trey lance!

lol shows he's just speculating like everybody else and doesn't have real insider info into who the Niners are going to draft

Why are people ragging on adam schefter? He first said he believes it would be mac jones. It was his belief. People can have opinions. He never said he had insider Information. And if there is one person I would actually listen to about any insider Information it's adam schefter.
It's like the anti mac jones crowd are trying to feel better that it's not a guaranteed that they pick mac jones.

The Haters will bring that hate on anyone who likes Mac Jones including Lynch and Kyle if they make the pick of which many are already calling for Kyle's head before anything even happens. I can't wait to see the Forum Meltdown here if Jones is the pick.

I think watching the zone implode would be more entertaining than actually watching the rookie, whoever it is, play.

I have faith Kyle can work with any of the QB options and make them better. As long as who ever is picked can eventually elevate the current QB play and show up every game is all that matters to me.
Schefty has posted that JL and KS cant make up their minds because they like all three....he's been reading my posts.

i honestly believe they can make a great QB out of any of them...and i really have no choice, other than what peters, JL and kyle want most. True all have downsides, but so does everybody else . If Zack should happen to be passed on by Jets, i wonder if we would take someone so frail looking. Excellent QB but we gotta have "availability" all the time. And i don't doubt that durability is a large concern for all 3 of KS/JL/peters.

funny how last yrs injury catastrophe focuses the mind on "being healthy" ...all yr.

He still said I believe. Look, the bottom line is if he replaced Justin fields with mac jones, nobody would be complaining.

Honestly I'd be happy with Lance / Fields. Lance potential is filth and I believe that it's Lance and he's had all of us going one way this whole time with little to no talk about Lance. That's how it was with Kinlaw + Aiyuk last year, let that tradition continue.

KS probably thinking #gotem either way.

Why Brandon Aiyuk is an ideal receiver for San Francisco 49ers | Chris Simms Unbuttoned | NBC Sports

Here's one reason why this year seems particularly odd with Simms. You can watch the whole video or skip to 1:45 of the video. Dude admits that KS was extremely high on Aiyuk and he tried to be a 'good friend' and not show any connection between Aiyuk and the 49ers.

Yet this year, he's been banging on the table screaming Jones to the 49ers. Yeah, there's no need for a smoke screen, but just seems out of character.

No your wrong there is no chance in God's green earth that it's Mac Jones!

They say based on what you've heard, who is it at 3. His response? Oh Mac Jones.

Now you can infer ok this is an opinion. But when you ask a guy with a lot of connections "what have you heard" now it's beyond "well I believe"

He'll wear #10 so we won't have to burn our Jimmy Jerseys and just change the nameplates....

And yet, according to Kyle, he doesn't tell Simms anything. So who's lying? I guess we'll find out on draft night. If the pick is Jones, clearly Kyle is gabbing about all of the team's plans to Chris. (or at least enough of his own feelings for the plans to be easy to infer).

One things folks are not considering with regards to evaluation is the Zoom sessions where white board and film study can be conducted.

An interesting piece with insight from Bruce Arians :

When coach Bruce Arians and quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich, among others, meet with quarterback prospects, Leftwich will teach the quarterback three plays. They'll move on to other film study before returning to see how much the quarterback retained.

A session at the board can tell Arians quite a bit. Or sometimes, all he needs to know.

"How do they learn? [How do they] regurgitate it?" said Arians, listing off questions he wants to see answered during the board sessions. "How smooth are they in a presentation? What kind of moxie do they have? Do they have a presence? A swagger?

"They have to have something."

One thing Arians wants the quarterback prospects to have is a sense of responsibility.

When Arians and the player break down the quarterback's bad plays, Arians grills him. Why was a certain throw made? What was the quarterback thinking? What happened? Arians watches closely how the prospect reacts. Does he blame others or take responsibility if a play breaks down?

"If they start blaming other people, that tells me something," Arians said. "If it's, 'I screwed up. The read wasn't there,' I like this guy. He was honest, first of all, and he has a reason for what he's doing. You can work with that. That's the fun part of getting to know these guys."

By watching a quarterback break down film and dissect plays on the board, Arians can also get a feel for how they'll be in the huddle -- a foreign place to most college quarterbacks. Of the 14 quarterbacks who attended the NFL scouting combine, 10 threw passes without huddling on 66 percent of their attempts last season.

That's troubling to Arians.

"This is the problem with kids today," Arians said. "They never got in a huddle and looked at 10 other guys who've got families to feed, and had to call a play. They just looked to the sideline, kicked their foot and rolled.

"That's the hardest thing for these kids, to come to minicamp, get in a professional huddle and try to lead these guys. You have to give them a wristband because they can't spit it out or you have to give them a wristband and then all the guys in the huddle get pissed off because he can't call the play. I'm not making eye contact with you and you don't have a hell of a lot of confidence that I know what I'm talking about."

Every coach evaluates a little differently so this isn't an end all. But beyond film and YouTube highlights (which is what most fans base their opinions off of), there are aspects of evaluating that we aren't privvy to. Aspects that may have some bearing on how we and even other teams view each of these prospects.

I believe we have conducted some zoom meetings with Lance but we didn't go to his pro day. I also am pretty sure we had Lance on zoom before the trade to 3. I don't know if we had conducted any zoom meetings with Fields or Jones to date, and if any of that transpired before the trade to 3.
Everybody penciling in what the Niners will do is like an a*****e, an opinion and everyone has one. Just like everyone is penciling in Wilson to the Jets. Wouldn't it be entertaining and hilarious if the Jets select Fields? That is going to mess up al of the media and even some draft boards.

Besides doing their due diligence, another good reason not to telecast which QB you are taking is because it can cause some teams to change what they will do in the draft, like moving up or down. Which in turn can help get some players you like further down the draft.

Everybody is focusing on just physical talent. when they should also be concerned with the mental game and attitude as well. Which is why many QBs go bust.

People can get fired even if they select players with perceived great talent if that talent ends up being a bust. What is important is the player can end up doing what you want him to do. Sometimes people get hooked to much into the value thing rather than his chance of succeeding at the next level. Do they fit in your system and can the coach get the most out of him. Need both.
