FACTS! How anyone thinks Dion Jordan will take away snaps from Dee Ford is beyond me. He has shown nothing that would substantiate that belief.

It's more a case of Ford needing a break. With his knee issues he is likely to need some time off. Even Bosa needs an occasional break. Jordan and Armstead give them 2 guys that can come in and at least hold their own. Maybe Blair as well. You can't have too many linemen. They're just building depth so they don't have the problems they did last year when Blair and Ford were both out. Bosa was doubled and wore down and the sacks dropped off.

Exactly, this is for depth in the rotation.

Isn't rotation basically 'taking time away from the starters'?

I CAN SEE this guy taking away Ford's spot... this kid can still be as good as ALDRUNK Smith because of this fellow DL ..

Two things: Firstly, AA is a starter, not a rotational guy. Meaning HE will need a breather from Jordan. So I don't know what you mean by " . . . that can come in and at least hold their own." And secondly, if anything Jordan will take snaps from Blair. But if he's healthy Blair will have a lot to say about that. Personally, I'd rather have a healthy Blair than the bust Jordan taking rotational snaps. Call me a homer, but I just trust Blair over Jordan. Blair has already proven he can hold his own, as you'd say. In my mind he'd be a starter on at least 60% of the teams due to his versatility.

So while I like the signing. He'll be a talented rotational piece. But make no mistake about it, he won't be taking snaps away from Bosa, Ford, or AA. Understand this: Dee Ford isn't technically a starter in terms of base downs. (I'm expecting some push-back.) Ford is like the slot CB: he's not a technical "starter" but he's in most of the snaps. Our base starters will be:

Bose
Kinlaw/Thomas
D.J
AA

On passing downs (which is most of the snaps) AA will be inside and Ford will be in at the other DE spot opposite Bosa. Blair, Jordan, Hyder/Givens will be the rotational pieces, and a very good rotational group I might add.
I can see him returning to form with a good team around him so he doesn't have to carry high expectations, win win for us either way

No way in hell will Dion Jordan take snaps from Dee Ford. Ford's produced at a high level, where Jordan's been a bust. He's more of a rotational player, he won't take serious snaps from Dee IMO.

FACTS! How anyone thinks Dion Jordan will take away snaps from Dee Ford is beyond me. He has shown nothing that would substantiate that belief.

FACTS II !!

How anyone who knows football would think that THERE'S NO WAY DJ can have a better season than DF is beyond me..

I can tell you're one of those GMs that would sign players ONLY to be backups.. while all the wise FRONT OFFICES hope of landing free agents who can compete to make the team better and view his self to be a starter still..

FORD ( FIX OR REPAIR DAILY ) - he's always hurt, and if DJ can figure out the way to use his talent, then he will end up taking DFs spot.

In 5 years Dion Jordan has 10.5 sacks, he missed 1 year due to suspension, in 6 years Dee Ford has 37.0 sacks.

Jordan has 91 Career Tackles, Ford has 151 Career Tackles.

Out of a possible 96 games, Jordan has played in 50, missed 30 games due to injuries or suspension, played in 16, 10, 0, 5, 12, and 7 games.

Out of 96 possible games, Ford has played in 78, missed 18 due to injuries, played in 16, 14, 15, 6, 16, and 11 games over his 6 yr career

I don't see Jordan being better than Ford. There's a reason Ford got a $85M deal, and Jordan is on a minimum contract.

The missing piece to the roster.

Um no. You know how the Greek freak or James Harden or LeBron or Kahwi can't really play the entire 48 minutes of a basketball game? Same thing with Bosa or Armstead. They also expend even more energy and effort in football than basketball players do in their sport.

Great comparison, I'm a Rockets fan, and I love James Harden, but he can't play all 48 minutes, just like not every NFL player can play every snap, of course some players do, QB, OL, but you need good rotational players, they don't take snaps, just give those players some breathers, like in the NBA, that's why they have a 15 man roster(13 on game nights)
We have lots of 1st round picks on that line

Honestly, I think aldon smith would have been a better signing. He would've been a little more expensive but probability of actually being good is greater.
