how did the rams stay the same?

Because they sucked in 2019 and they will suck in 2020.

Rams lost Littleton, Matthews, Roby-Coleman and Fowler on D. Added Leonard Floyd to replace Fowler.

Lost Greg the Leg on ST's.

Lost Gurley and Cooks on offense.

Not exactly staying the same IMO.

Rams definitely got worse.

On paper it definitely appears so. We will see if they have young talent that can and will step up.

Left out they also lost their DC and will be running a new D under a first year coordinator.

Quite possibly

We could/should end up with a better version of Jimmy G, Deebo and Bosa.

We could end up with a full season of Kittle too.....

There are lots of reasons to think the offense will out performance last year.

But the defense won't be as good as last year's. I just hope that they can be decent this year.

maybe.....

But we could realistically expect Bosa to get better, for the DT rotation to be more healthy. Its not out of the question for Mosley to take a step up as well. Even the linebacker core could improve both in heath and performance. We got some young people that should still be improving.

Plus Kinlaw

I get that Kinlaw likely will not "replace" Defo, but....... Kinlaw's one elite skill could be BETTER then Defo right out of the box.

Kinlaw can penetrate, and we will likely see that year 1. You can not underestimate the effect that will have on Ford and Bosa. If Kinlaw can just MOVE the QB on third down, it could be massive for the outside pass rush. He doesn't need to hit the QB, or even touch the QB....just move him. Think how many "almost" sacks that were maybe a half a second or a yard away from happening. If Kinlaw can just move the QB one yard left or one yard right, massive things can happen for Ford and Bosa.

I really am cautiously optimistic for next year.

losing gurley is a plus because his career is done and they saved salary.

AA and Ward had fluke years. Theyre gonna go back to their unreliable ways. Dee Dee Ford is going to be injured all year. Sherman is a year older. But i expect kwon to surprise people this year.

It'll be interesting to see if during the games when the rams d is on the field if McVay will still be non-existence like he was when Wade was d-cord.
Immeasurably better.

Trent Williams alone upgrades the level of nasty on this team. Something the offense could use. Our new WR will ball, the more film I watch the more I like him.

With our returning players from IR, Bosa year 2 and jimmy improving, we will be lots better.

Hope shanahan doesn't take his foot off the gas and forget his playmakers when it matters most.

So this is all based on assumptions except Sherman's. Got it

That's not a particularly sound observation. Ward avoided being hurt most of the year which, given his history. I suppose could needed considered a fluke but his technique, especially in regard to his tackling, was first rate. He stopped a lot of plays from going for bigger yardage than they did. Not sure how you can argue that he will somehow forget that part of his game. Same for Armstead. He played really good fundamental football last year, what was fluky about that and why should it change this season. Like a lot of posters in this forum you're just taking a snarky cheap shot and pretending that it represents some sort of informed opinion.

great point about Kinlaw at the end there

We're also getting Trent Taylor, Jalen Hurd and Jerrick McKinnon, barring any more setbacks. It will be like getting new players, since we haven't seen the instant 3rd down connection Taylor had with Jimmy since the first five games after the trade (all wins, of course). We haven't seen 6-4 ft beast Hurd since the dominant pre-season game where he was a monster in the endzone. And Kyle's been frothing at the mouth to run plays he designed for McKinnon, who is like having another receiver out of the backfield.

Three forgotten players that could actually make significant contributions this year on offense. If Hurd plays like he did last year before he got hurt, imagine the nightmare defenses will face with Kittle, Samuel, Aiyuk, Hurd and our running game with Trent Williams and Jusc blocking. If Hurd can also block, he could be a huge contributor this year.

Offensively, we should be better with the addition of Williams and a healed up Richburg coming back. Upgrade with Aiyuk replacing Sanders. On defense, probably a little drop with a rookie replacing DeFo. Secondary is the same as last year.

Totally agree!

I hope so too. But you have to recognize this is another unconventional, off-schedule draft impulse from Kyle. Stop trying to cover for the guy. I love the fact that he is confident enough in his own understanding of the game to pull stuff like this. And after having thought a lot about it I have come to the conclusion that we must LET KYLE BE KYLE. Because, here we are right? In the Super Bowl because of this guy primarily.

But at some point he has to think about the bigger picture and the cost to the team if things don't work out. He can't draft at 31 the way he can at 2, where a second rounder is basically still a first, and so on down the line.

Covering for him how? Both Kyle and John, as well as our other front office guys, are widely recognized around the league as knowing what they're doing. Just because we might not understand the process doesn't mean that it isn't a winning one.
