I mean there's no players we have to prepare to pay, I'd if any WRs standout in camp if not I'd try to extend him but like many have said this is his payday year especially with Ayuik likely out for some time you'd have to give him an offer he can't refuse

It's been a very good offseason with what the team has done to this point IMO. If they could extend Jennings, it would be just that much better of an offseason. Hoping it happens.

I want to see what Jennings can bring not playing out of the slot since I think that's going to be Cowing to start.

He was the starting XWR from the TB game until the end of the season and was damn good.

Dude is going to get the bag if he has a big season as a starting XWR. Some of these offers being thrown around are laughable. 49ers would just piss JJ off with these disrespectful ass offers after the team-friendly deals he's signed. Dude wants the b-a-g now. He's this year's Dre Greenlaw. Like I said last year: enjoy him while he's still around because he's gone next offseason.

It depends on how he does, but also how Aiyuk does.
Jennings can play outside, he did it at UT and was successful at it even with bad qb play.

i have a hard time seeing shanny let JJ out of the bldg and he's not a WR who may be valued highly all over the NFL. we value him for his run block prowess as much as anything.

What it looked like to me was when they put him on the line outside and he was going against press he really struggled.

I can't speak on every play, but I saw him have plenty of success against press as well. He was basically our most consistent man coverage beater. Good CBs that have some size are definitely gonna give him more fits tho.

The Best Young Mind In Football should not be putting him on the outside then... NO?

That was the point. The top 3 WRs available for game 1 is slot JJ, slot Cowing, and Pearsall ... someone has to play "out of position".

Other people have more faith in JJ against press man.

There's video of every single snap he payed last year and it didn't appear to me that he struggled in any area but breakaway speed, which he has never had. He not only gets open more than any other guy at the position, but he is the best at contested catches. He played x at UT and had pretty good success at the position, especially considering who they had at qb.

Like I said in the post above this one "Other people have more faith in JJ against press man." :)

If he's got a corner on his hip he shouldn't get the ball if another WR has space around him ... forcing the ball into coverage may result in JJ winning more than most WRs but that doesn't make it a good plan. It's much easier to scheme him into some space from the slot than from the X since he doesn't have the separation ability to reliably get space on his own. I'm in Austin, I saw him play X at UT ... but let's not pretend college corners had anything to offer for the physical abuse JJ doled out every week, but in the NFL it's a completely different game.

Don't get me wrong, I love JJ ... for his athletic limitations he's awesome, and every team would love him on their team. I just think either he or Cowing are going to be playing in a less than optimal position for their skills/limitations. I could see Shanny scheming some advantages by motioning CMC, Kittle, and Guerendo outside to get defenses to give the X WR more room at the snap.
