This is one part of the whole thing that is the 49ers' fault, ... specifically Kyle's fault. They should have let the trade to Pittsburgh go through.
Or they should have said F it, and traded BA to Cleveland or New England instead, if possible, without BA's input.
Kyle trusted his relationship with Aiyuk would allow for things to move forward more positively after he got him to sign the extension. He had no reason to think otherwise - every other player up to that point that had a tough contract negotiation had resumed being part of the team and a solid contributor. It's hard to blame Kyle for this situation as it's rather unprecedented. No one expects someone to completely stop a relationship cold turkey after five years. You could tell Kyle was taken aback by the ghosting last year on a personal level, IMO. Compare that to Deebo, who sat down and talked through his desire for a trade after the 2024 season.
Now, if Kyle let's a similar situation burn him again shame on him. IMO that's a big part of why they pretty much didn't even try to retain Jennings.
