Instead what happened is they decided to move him in a trade and the coach pushed the deal through at the last minute. You had a disagreement about what direction to take and a falling out over it. The player knows the organization isn't bought in, gets injured and loses all value, and there is some level of reorganization of power when it comes to roster decisions.

They did make the decision to pay Aiyuk after missing TC and I would not have. Hindsight is 20/20 but there have been few holdouts through TC that I can recall that were fruitful. Emmitt Smith in the 90's Cowboys dynasties comes to mind. Dude held out, came back 3rd week of the season and DAL never lost another contest. That is rare

I think very little of what you said here is relevant to the issue.

-It's business as usual for teams to get extensions done with players prior to their final year.
-We could fit this contract in to our cap structure as shown ad nauseam during the negotiation process. Keep in mind the owner wanted to re-set cash spending (has nothing to do with the cap).

This isn't a case of Aiyuk's contract not working within our budget. This is a case about cash spending and who decides what player is worth keeping in our plans.

You spend CASH to get RESULTS. You should not spend CASH on giving a guy an early raise when you have a year's leverage, that has not prepared all offseason and held out training camp because you very likely to get bad RESULTS (not in football shape and increased likelihood of injury). We talking about relevancy to use your definition. Well I am saying cash has to lead to results and holding out during training camp with a year left expecting me to break bread with you would be a NO GO! And I would tell all agents this up front.

Which is why we should have never extended Purdy a year early either.

50 mil for Purdy or 4 mil for Mac Jones?

None of these big extensions have worked out.

This will go down as one of the worst decisions this regime made. Giving this diva 30 mil was a huge mistake. The biggest two of course was trading Buckner and trading for Lance.

These decisions would get most regimes fired.

They started their tenure off with something never seen. They had the #2 overall pick and needed a QB. Decided to take Solomon Thomas instead and wait until the 3rd round to TRADE UP for CJ Beathard and roll with Hoyer as the starter. Yes; I know they had Cousins in mind but that was for the next season free agency.

How often do you see a new GM and new Head Coach come to a team without a QB and the #2 overall pick and not take a QB?

Seems like these guys always out think themselves and think they the smartest in the room instead of just making the obvious choices.

Disaster after disaster with the decision making of this team.

What exactly do we have to be happy about?

It's one disaster after another with this team

Well I will say that with Purdy he went through the offseason and he did all the work and he came into the season in football shape and he got turf toe. I have no problem with him getting his deal done during the offseason and not by holding out through TC. Now time will tell if Purdy is gonna be able to lift this team devoid of the stars it has had in the past or not. I think we will have a clearer picture the rest of this year if Purdy can carry a team with no defense to the playoffs and win a couple of games or more. Normally if we make playoffs we at least go to the NFCCG and if we even sniff this with the team as currently constructed then I would be in favor of Purdy's extension where he did not hold out and got his deal done early. Now if he stinks, I will agree with you about him

Extensions I agreed with were Kittle Warner CMC and maybe Purdy because they were on time. I did not like the Bosa and the Aiyuk negotiations however as they missed time and came back out of football shape. Of course we wanted to keep those players but we needed to agree with their agents prior to TC

I have no issue with your suggestion for handling contract negotiations. I don't think it's realistic, given no teams really operate that way, but it does make sense.

It's just pointless in this discussion because we're evaluating how the team handled this situation, and your suggestion clearly wasn't in play.

Does the team get a comp pick if he signs elsewhere in the off-season?
I'm just waiting to see the odds he signs with the Commanders. I'd put it at like -500000 if I was an oddsmaker

And then they skip Mahomes that year and they lose to him with Jimmy G and Purdy at QB. That is tough! But I hold out hope Purdy will pan out for us

That despite all the disasters we are always in contention with Kyle on the sideline.

No, this is just about getting out from under another bad contract.
