Yeah AP did tear both dudes a freak of nature though and I dont think nerve damage was reported. Its possible but it would seem 80-90% of players are never the same. I want to see if he bounces back but with all the dead cap we created this year I almost feel it might be smart to take what we can get and take the cap hit now rather than later
My initial point was that doctors and trainers are getting better at getting players back to 100% after those injuries so it's not hopeless, he could be all the way back by the end of the year. It's POSSIBLE even if it might not be likely.
Void years are part of the reason the 49ers are keeping so much cap space this year ... they are going to roll most of it over because those void years are going to come due and they are planning to have space for them.
The fact that they are rolling over that cap space is in part so they can make those decisions to move on from a player when it's needed.
If Aiyuk's deal had been signed 3 months earlier I kind of feal like he might not have been injured :/ (not that that is logical)
I said that too, half jokingly. Missing camp increases risk of injury significantly. I watched the injury in slow motion and it looks like his knee buckles before his right foot hits the ground and when it does that's where it really tore it up.
Not saying it's impossible but very unlikely he's the all pro potential he was. Him flexing $$ and telling fans to stfu doesn't give me hope either. I don't hate the guy and I can understand frustration being seriously injured but he doesn't seem happy, almost resentful. I'm not trying to blame him for the injury but dude seems to be more of a headache at this point

Was a big Aiyuk guy...despite his mishandling and teenager behavior during the contract negotiating...I acknowledged a few things:
1. He's still a young kid and times are different; and the Niners owed him
2. The Niners had once again got caught up in negotiation drama after several years of doing so
That said, Aiyuk's felt very different. Even from Deebo's, whose including a high level of drama. Furthermore, Aiyuk admitted this himself during the season last year where he intimated that he could have, and shoulda, handled things differently, and expressed some regret over it.
Was his injury a somewhat freak and unrelated occurrence? Absolutely.
But the severity of the injury and the uncertainty around his future, makes his self admitted s**tty behavior all the more intolerable.
Now, the 49ers have a guy who already had questionable character that you were willing to overlook or deal with because of his talent.
Now, that talent may never return because hey, a torn ACL is one thing; an ACL MCL and "other structural damage" to a player whose position and skillset is predicated on cuts and precise route running (again, more so because that's the high point of Aiyuk's game) is devastating.
To be honest, he's gone from being an essential, must re-sign guy for the Niners, to a complete afterthought and someone I expect and anticipate nothing from not only next year, but for the duration of him wearing red and gold.
It sucks. But this just feels like a bad luck situation unrelatedly combined with "writing on the wall" as far as Aiyuk's demeanor.
I pray I'm wrong and have been a huge supporter but I can't be the only one who saw that injury and thought..."welp that's over".

That's what I hope but let's get real most players are never quite the same after an injury like that, if he was a go up and get it kind of guy like Jennings, Mike Evan's, Jefferson, or Metcalf Inwouldnt be as concerned but Ayuiks skill set is mainly crisp route running
Hit the nail on the head. I'm not saying it to be cynical but this guy's career is toast and I will be absolutely dumbfounded if he even comes back to be 80% of what he was...and let's be honest...80% of what he was is pedestrian. He needs 100% of that route running ability to make the difference and without it, yikes.
Again, I'll be the one cheering the loudest if this isn't the case but if I'm a betting man, I bet Aiyuk is a non entity for the rest of his career.

Why declare his career is "toast" when we don't know how he's going to come back?
These kids are often done wrong by their agents and don't realize they are blamed by fans for things their agents do and tell them to do. I love it when players become their own agents, they usually end up with better deals with less drama and the "news" you hear about them comes from them directly more of the time :)

You're acting like he lost a leg lol. Other guys that suffered a very similar injury was AP, Gronk, Brady, Hockenson, Jamaal Charles, Jason Kelce, Thomas Davis had 3 ACLs etc etc

With nerve damage? People really chalking this up as a basic ACL

I only see an ACL for Charles. AP, Gronk, and Hockenson tore both with no nerve damage. Only AP is really applicable considering the position. Pointing out Brady? Really?

I haven't heard much about nerve damage . There was speculation, but all that was confirmed was ACL/MCL

You're right can't seem to find it seems like I read that somewhere. All I can find is this
[Rapoport] 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk does, in fact, have a torn ACL and MCL, per sources after the MRI. There may be other damage. His season is over, with a long road back for 2025. This is what coach Kyle Shanahan and SF believed following the game.
He did mess up his meniscus too but I don't think that's as bad as nerve damage

Yeah that's the one I recall , but then once swelling went down and they got in there it was determined no nerve damage. And meniscus is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. So fingers crossed 🤞

No, but the ACL is the main power ligament, MCL is more for stability so 100% recovery from that is common these days.

They don't always report the nerve damage, but it's not uncommon. The nerve damage is not as big a deal as getting a clean result from the surgery on the ACL.

I agree the ACL is more damaging but there have been a lot of players that never were quite the same after tearing both at the same time.
Even if the surgery is successful their are other problems that can occur chances of swelling and aggravating it go up exponentially.
"Acurring together, can have significant long-term effects on knee function and stability. While MCL injuries often heal well with conservative treatment, ACL tears typically require surgery for optimal recovery. The combination of these injuries can lead to persistent instability, pain, and an increased risk of developing osteoarthritis."
Remember Todd Gurley had to retire because of arthritis. Dont think his career is over but its not as simple as just an ACL

Yes, but in conjunction with one another is where it gets tricky

Only one I'm not totally sure about is Thomas (conflicting reports on JC), however Thomas tore his ACL 3 times and played high level football after that.
