The WR Sherman is covering dips his hips and head for the stutter Go route. Sherman slows down with the WR but he stays over the top of the WR.


Sherman stays with the WR, defeating the stutter Go. No other route is open as 49ers play excellent man coverage all around. Bracketing JuJu 19 on the weakside.


PIT tries to hit Sherman with a double move after seeing him squat on the short throw on the previous series.


QB watching for this route the whole way. Bosa nearly scores 2.

Moore would have to be playing like the entire Dolphins D for me to even consider Ward.

Won't be home to do cutups after tonight, but wanted to mention this play because it shows the 49ers defending a route concept that has given them problems. This was discussed last week and offenses are going to continue to try it until the 49ers show they can defend it.
2Q 2nd & 6 - Switch Verticals (vertical trail) vs Cover 3
I showed a couple ways teams defended this (CIN thread) and the simplest way is for the curl/flat defender (56) to match the vertical from #2. The 49ers do not do that here.


#1 is to occupy Spoon for #2 to attack the sidelines. Spoon stays over the top so he can watch the play develop. With no vertical threat to the field side, Tartt is able to shade over to help.


When yellow bends his route to go up the sideline, behind red, Tartt points to Spoon, signaling for Spoon to pass off red so that Spoon can peel off and cover yellow.


Understanding how offenses will attack, making adjustments, growth as a defensive unit.

Thanks Thl, you and JD have taught me so much, it's good to see the two of them defend that concept that they failed to last week. I'd now like to see Moore grasp it as well.
