Are the Niners overhyped

Vegas has the over/under for wins at 8. That's not a lot of hype unless you consider they are expected to double their win total.

Lol. The negative ones think anyone positive is overhype so. But some people are just always negative and so will always be behind. We could go 12-4 this year and they won't enjoy it until it's over or actually they'd be nitpicking and complaining the whole way. I honestly wonder how some people can even enjoy the game (or anything in life for that matter) when they're constantly negative

Not hearing any hype on this end. Everyone seems to think we'll be NFC West bottom feeders.

I mean we are always gonna over hype our squad but the rest of the league ain't gonna take us serious until we win.

Not overhyped this year. Definitely last year, people were really jumping the gun because of the five-game winning streak at the end of 2017. The team needs to be under hyped this year, keep expectations low.

By the time the regular season rolls around people will know about us with a QB and coach combo like we have and big additions like Ford and Bosa they'll be onto us. Hype really doesn't matter though except to fans, for some reason. The team is hungry as hell, they don't give a s**t what the media says

Same. A real tinge of bitterness comes through with some. I guess that's the result of being too emotionally invested in something over which they have no control.

To the overhype question, I just wanna say I hope they've rearranged the trophy cabinet to make a place for Lombardi #6.

Overhyped? Don't be ridicules, if anything, we are underestimated. We are the best team in NFC west and one of the two top teams in NFC.

The amount of dissenting voices suggesting the 49ers are better than a 6-8 win team are rather few. It's hard to find members of the media who are confident in the team the way the confident Niner fan is. Hell, even a bunch of Niner fans aren't "sold" on Jimmy, Kyle, Lynch, etc....so how tf is anyone getting the impression that this team is overhyped?? LMFAO.

Looking at the TV schedule this year, the 49ers are getting LESS prime time games (esp. Sunday Night) compared to last year. Cautious perhaps, but it seems like the Niners need their 10+ win season before they can be trusted.

Here's the fascinating thing:

People (haters) are banking on the 49ers not being a great team around Jimmy Garoppolo - either he can't stay healthy and/or he isn't good enough in their eyes. While I don't believe either are true, it's a legitimate argument to be had.

If Jimmy proves to be healthy and as good as he has shown when he's comfortable, then the 49ers are *significantly* more dangerous than the team we were fielding last summer. We have improved significantly on the edge, solidified the LB position, and should have at least as good if not a better secondary. On offense, we bring back Matt Breida who by himself I think most would be content with. But now we have Tevin Coleman AND Jerick McKinnon that we absolutely did not have last (regular) season. That's gonna be a problem whether people want to believe it or not.

As for the WR/TE situation, you have to believe that improved too. A lot is riding on Deebo Samuel becoming a better receiver in short order than Pierre Garcon has been for the Niners. Goodwin is a push, Pettis needs to be more consistent/healthy, but otherwise you have to think the WR position has improved. The addition of Toilolo at TE will allow the Niners to feature more creative 2 and 3 TE sets like how Shanny used with the Falcons.

So again, the roster is largely improved on paper, and is at least going to be as healthy as last year if not healthier.......the only thing holding the team back is this idea that Jimmy is not a good QB.

It's so f**** tiring as a Niner fan having to deal with this crap. In both years, regardless of QB the offense never started out great......and I'm putting that blame squarely on the skill positions and a chunk of the OL much more than the QBs, whether Hoyer, CJ, Jimmy, Mullens. It's hopefully time the offense as a whole starts firing out from the gate.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the eye test for Jimmy games 1-3 (even the Vikings game) showed more of a real QB than Mullens ever have, and even our prior golden boys #11 and #7. The gap between this supposed "much better" Jimmy in 2017 and the 2018 Jimmy wasn't huge.....

Also, Jimmy got hurt on a freak injury. I'd be much more concerned if Jimmy took a semi-hard hit and was out just like he was after 2 games with the Patriots in 2016. The starting QB ACL squad in the NFL includes Wentz, Watson in recent years, and even the god himself, Brady.

I want the Niners to be underhyped for the sake of allowing the team to perform better and surprise people. But in my mind, I have the most confidence in the Niners since 2012/2013.

I'll take that all the way to the death.

That team had ZERO expectation. Maybe not zero, but no Niner fan had aspirations of a NFC powerhouse.

Vegas knows most people are bearish on the 49ers, so no need to make the over/under 10+ wins this year if the upside is only so much and the risk is still there.

Better for Vegas to lose some money on the Niners this year, and maybe next year their over/under will be more accurate.

Most people are setting expectations between 7 and 10 wins. Seems right about where it should be.
