What side of the ball are you most excited to see in 2019?

Defense got a huge boost on the DL, but the offense will have a gigantic boost from getting Jimmy back, speed and youth at all skill positions, and the best play caller in the NFL. This franchise made a name for itself by being one step ahead of the league's defenses. I'm excited to see them start working their way back to being that caliber of offense.

I think quite a few of us that answered defense think that the offense will be exciting and that it is more than likely going to happen under Kyle. We may have less faith on the other side of the ball given what we have seen.. So seeing huge improvement where you have less faith can be more exciting.

The taint
I would have to say defense because defense wins championships. We got a taste of what the offense might look like with a healthy Jimmy G at the end of 2017 and can hope that all of the new additions they have made there will result in even better and more consistent play from that unit moving forward. They just need to figure out their red zone issues. But the defense has always seemed like its been a few steps behind. It will flash here and there but seemed to lack the discipline and talent necessary to get consistent results.

I think discipline is largely a coaching issue and Saleh has come under legitimate pressure for not fielding a defense where the guys are executing their assignments as they should. A lot of those guys were new and some of them simply didn't seem to be very good but they are now entering their third year under Saleh's system and its time for everybody to step up and justify Kyle's faith in his defensive coordinator. I think they have upgraded their talent significantly this year with guys like Ford, Alexander, Verret and Bosa, who now have to show they can recover from the injuries they have and prove they can stay on the field.

With Bosa and Ford coming off the edges and some combination of Buckner, Thomas, Armstead, and perhaps Street working the middle that line could be nasty. Pair Alexander, who looked like a 3 down LB before he got hurt, with Warner who is also a guy who can run and cover and all of the sudden that front seven is looking pretty good if they can get some decent play from Lee or Smith. Clearly with all of the injuries they have had in the secondary they are rolling the dice a bit with their choices back there so I guess we will see what happens but if they can improve their play even by 10 percent I think that could have a real impact on the over all play of that unit.

Right on
This is a tough one. I picked offense. Offense is the most exciting one, but defense is the most INTRIGUING one to me. ESPECIALLY if throughout all this off-season, Tarvarius Moore manages to snag a hold of the starting FS spot somehow.

There could be so many potential new starters:

FS Moore
CB Verrett
OLB Alexander
DE Ford
DE Bosa
NT Jones

That's more than half the defense. Think about that.

For me, I want to see the offense click. Too many years of old school Chicago style 3 yards and a cloud of dust, with low percentage long passes.

I want to see the West Coast offense click , because it is the most exciting game in the world.

Kyle has all the elements and I think we're about to see beautiful football again.

Having said that, a dominant defense is absolutely essential to get anywhere . We are almost there on that too.
Most excited to see: Offense
Most apprehensive to see: Defense
Most intrigued to see: Special Teams

Kind of a cop-out but it's a tough question. I am so anxious to see this team but together an all around solid effort in every phase of the game. From purely an entertainment aspect, I want to see everybody on offense healthy so KS can start calling this offense like we all know he is capable of doing. If they are consistently putting up a bunch of yards and points, I think that will be the most fun to see. As many have stated, it's been a while since we have seen a great offense here, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed this year we become an offensive juggernaut.

I think the defense has the widest range of outcomes with all of the question marks in regards to personnel. Will our revamped pass rush take enough burden off our secondary to make them seem competent? Will our new coaching additions actually make all of the potential in our secondary competent? Will the combination lead us to a top 10 defense again? Or will we be left closing our eyes every time the defense takes the field again? This unit makes me the most nervous to see, but if they even reach middle of the pack in most categories, it will go a long way in easing my concerns on this teams future.

Like many on here, I was stunned when they took a punter in the 4th. But after reading and watching all I could on Wish, I'm really hoping this guy turns out to be the valuable weapon JL and KS think he will be. Punters catch a lot of heat, but those guys that consistently pin teams deep are invaluable; and if they can get the offense an extra possession with a successful fake here and there, that's icing on the cake. Hopefully Gould can be content with another year here and continue to be reliable. And we have a stable of talented returners now so hopefully we have a couple of guys that can put pressure on the opposing teams punter to shank a punt or risk them taking it to the house.

I had crazy high hopes last year. Obviously, those hopes were dashed early in the season. I am cautious about letting my hopes get so high again, but it is tough because I can see that this team has improved so much even from where we were last year. Fingers crossed our crazy run of injuries is over and we are on our way to #6!!
I just want to see the team be elite in something. The best candidate for that is probably our pass rush, so I voted for defense.

I'm not worried about the offense at all. But as for the defense, I can't wait to see what the staff put together on the field. Kwon Alexander at LB, Dee Ford and whether Jason Verrett can solidify the #2 CB spot. Yah I'm pretty frickin stoked!!

I agree with offense because I think we should put together some spectacular offensive performances this year. I don't think we will do it consistently, but there will be some weeks where we may look like the best or a top 5 offense in the league. On defense, I'm excited to see our new front 7, but on the whole, it's more finger crossing on defense than thinking we could see a 2011 type of performance. More of the parts are in place on offense and they have the right play caller.
