i would have issue bringing him back. he's a gadget player, kick returner. he struggles at route running or giving the QB a consistent open option in the pass game. he lashed out at a teammate in a physical altercation, and about a month later bemoaned the clubs lack of performance saying it's not his fault. he then turned in one of the worst games i've ever seen from a 49er with all eyes on him, in primetime. if we do bring him back, i think he should just return kicks with seriously limited O snaps. we are better on O with him watching the football games.
Yeah I don't want him back under any circumstances the whole my lack of production is everyone else's fault seals the deal for me.

Just releasing him would be less complicated than figuring out the right time to trade him. Release him after June 1st and be done with it.
Nah, can't do that. Gotta get something for him or he can watch from the bench

I don't mind either way.
We don't have a say, but it's something you and every fan should mind. He should not get rewarded for quitting

It's much less about us "rewarding" Deebo. lol it's about what's best for the organization.
1. what we do with him has huge cost implications
2. it's not good for the locker room or team culture to have a guy who's been a big piece of leadership to sit there wanting out and throwing a tantrum. We don't need any more distractions.

hes also declined quite a bit the last two years (at least in our scheme). So it doesn't really benefit us much to hold him hostage and hope he plays.
this is about what's best for the team. Has nothing to do with "rewarding" or "punishing" anyone.

The route you're suggesting could end up with catastrophically bad results - but at least he wouldn't be rewarded right? Lol
What's best for the organization is he get in shape and play. if not then he sits out

Eating 30m because of being scared of the possibility of what might happen in the locker room or whatever you're afraid of is no way to run/be the best option for an organization

All we'd be talking about with Joey is why is he missing another game. Major pass on him

Maybe. I'd still take the chance. Even Khalil Mack. Obviously Myles would be the best but I don't see that happening, would be amazing though.

I just want us to get a badass pass rusher opposite Bosa. It holds us back so much to have mediocre pass rush at best opposite of him.

Yeah, Bosa needs help. That's why I been campaigning to use that #11 pick on the best edge available. Would help the defense out tremendously.

Deebo for Ronnie Bell, the niners take that in a heart beat.

I think a good inside presence would help Bosa just as much as a good edge rusher. The fact is they need better linemen both inside and edge if they want to get back to being a champion.
The sooner he is gone the better. This guy generates bad vibes. Selfish, annoying and arrogant. Go poison someone else's well. His video pod cast is about the same quality as his production on the field last year. Trash.

The 49ers have prorated about 92.5% of the first three years of Samuel's contract extension that was signed in 2022. This leaves the 49ers with $31.55 million in prorated charges to deal with in 2025 if Samuel is cut or traded, which is #3.7M more in cap space than the 49ers have spent on Samuel as an active player over the last three years. If the 49ers were to trade Samuel they would take all $31.55 million in cap charges in 2025 and would require some minor tweaking of his contract to avoid that number jumping by about another $3 million."

Just no good options...

So basically they backloaded the f**k out of his deal, which was a terrible idea.

No. They restructured, which reduced base salary and gave him a bunch upfront. The money hitting the cap if traded is money he has already been paid. If it were a backloaded deal, with money having been paid out already, they would be better off.

This. There is always a downside to restructuring deals. Gives immediate relief but tends to bite you down the road
There is. If Deebo were here longterm, there would be no issue. I get why they restructured, but of all the guys we had on big deals, Deebo had the largest gap between pay and performance. Its interesting that Juice, underused as he is, was asked to take a paycut. Id have rather restructured him as well as use him as a passing option more. He's more reliable than any TE2 we have had.

If Deebo were going to be here longterm, we would've been fine. I get why they did it, but of all the skill position guys (including Juice), Deebo would've been the last I'd restructure. Reason being is he had the largest gap between production and compensation.

not terrible at the time. These moves are done for players you see that could be here longer. Kittle, Trent and CMC have restructured also.. which is safe to do..

Deebo unfortunately took a wrong turn

Are the 49ers calling his bluff?

"Go see who wants you and what they are willing to pay and get back to us."
i don't think it's a bluff, but i don't think we would just give him up for nothing and take a huge hit.

if the right deal comes a long, i think we take it

I don't like the optics of it but I see Deebo not finding a favorable landing spot and playing out his contract here (with some adjustments). I'd rather be done with his prima donna act but the money may get in the way.

What amount of draft capital is it worth to trade him prior to June 1st vs cutting him post June 1st and saving around $20M in dead cap money ? Plus, you'd have to trade him before his $5M ( I think ) signing bonus is due, sometime in March

Honeself, nothing we can actually get. But the benefit of the pick is adding more talent on a cost controlled salary. I can see him moved for anything from a 3rd to a 5th. Still early enough to get a starter or a guy that can play a lot of snaps/contribute on special teams. Considering how much quality depth we need and starters at certain positions, I'll take it. It also would mean no commitment (I think) past 2025. Heavy price to pay, but another quality DT, LB, TE, or safety, and it would pay off short and longterm.

I don't expect them to get much of anything for Deebo. I think he will likely be designated as a post June 1st cut or traded for a day 3 pick swap.
Yeah deebo and Aiyuk are a bit selfish me first players and I'm not just talking about wanting money. It's their mentality, whereas people like McCaffrey, Kittle, Bosa and Purdy Huf Warner are not. It sucks because besides Kittle, my favorite player to watch was Deebo. They both galvanize the team when they would make a big play

I was thinking about this earlier: I wouldn't be surprised if we're going through this with BA next offseason. I expect him to have an underwhelming season next year, get tons of flak from the media and fanbase, and then follow in Deebo's footsteps and request a trade next offseason.
20 lbs. overweight, injured a lot, slower, less explosive, bloated contract, constant Dee_VAH. Trade him out of here. The sooner the better. Get what you can but time to say bye.

But then the 49ers would be ripping off Detroit. No way they make that trade, especially with Deebo's cap hit.

Yeah, he will definitely be defensive about the criticism he gets, but hopefully if we're winning, (which I think we will win at least 12 games) with our schedule and not the PLETHORA of injuries as well as a humongous upgrade at defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator, it won't be a big issue. Winning does cure a lot of issues
bye deebo good riddance
