You think just because they have 6-year contracts they will only try to win a Super Bowl in their 6th year? LOL.
Seriously, just like any job, if you want to make sure your job is secure, they should have done a heck a lot more in free agency and signed a few proper impact players ala Rams style.
Outside expectations even thought we could be knocking on the door in getting to the playoffs. Unfortunately, they are sadly mistaken.
But, in reality, what have you noticed in the past 3 games? A distinct lack of talent or let's just say our level of talent is inferior to that of many teams. What has been the common theme? We just can't match up!! For example, our WRs simply can't get open, hence why poor Jimmy G has been holding the ball for so much longer.
We are soooooooo ridiculously far from where we need to be even in the context of Lynch having a 6-year contract. To top it off, he ain't that great in drafting neither. He already blew our No.3 overall pick on a bust in Solomon Thomas, Joe Williams couldn't even make the team, Beathard is a garbage back-up QB, the list just goes on and on.
Based on what I've seen, if Lynch wants to give himself multiple chances in winning a Super Bowl, he would only be smart to start mounting a campaign starting next year in year 3 the very latest. But, in order to be ready for that, he will have to have a perfect draft plus doing a Rams job in free agency to lock down some serious heavy weight talents.
This is the NFL, teams are super competitive and there is no free lunch. If he ends up fielding a similar team to this current one come next year, not only will he never get the job done, the team will even regularly get smoked.
For our sake and his own sake, Lynch better get his act together quick in the coming offseason, otherwise things could end in a pool of tears sooner rather than later.
LOL.
Shanahan came to the 49ers because he and general manager John Lynch were given six-year contracts and a pledge from CEO Jed York upon inheriting a 2-14 team 19 months ago: You will be given the necessary time to fix this mess.
"I didn't want to come somewhere where we had to gamble a ton just so we could try to prove to (ownership): 'Hey, look at what we're doing, trust us, we're good and keep us around,'" Shanahan said. "I think that's a lot of the NFL. And I think that's why people are scared to go to a place that doesn't have a quarterback just sitting there ready to go. That does have a loaded roster.
"Those are hard things because perception can take over. I think that leads people to make a lot of bad decisions. And I felt if got an opportunity to make those (calls) I just really wanted to work with people to try to make the best decision possible. Not the one that will buy us more time."
The latest evidence of the new regime's patient approach was provided last week. The 49ers, a trendy playoff pick who have a gaping hole at edge rusher, one of the NFL's most important positions, pursued Raiders' All-Pro edge rusher Khalil Mack … to a point.
On Saturday, Lynch said the 49ers "aggressively" looked into adding Mack, whose 10.5 sacks last year are more than any player on the 49ers has collected in his career. But the 49ers also established "some parameters." The Bears acquired Mack, 27, in a trade in which they surrendered two first-round picks and then signed him to a six-year, $141 million contract, making him the highest-paid defensive player in league history.
"We're trying to build this thing such that when we get there, we want it to be sustainable," Lynch said Aug. 23. "We don't want to make it a one-year thing and (it's over). I think with the cap money we had available (this offseason), you could have gone and potentially built this as much as you could. But is that lasting? Is that sustainable? We wanted to build this such that we could get there and stay there."
"We can be aggressive if it's the right decision, but we don't have to do it for the wrong reasons," Shanahan said. "And that's what made me so excited to come here."
Lynch and Shanny have always preached patience in this rebuild. Jed said from day one they would have time. And we still have fans thinking they need to speed things up despite the same guys running the show keep repeating the same things.
It took Les Snead 5 years to get his team to where they were last year. 5 years to have a winning record, 5 years to make the playoffs. People can complain about Thomas and how he "is a bust". Les Snead has drafted plenty of busts and roster miscues himself :
-2nd round pick on WR Brian Quick in his first draft.
-Essentially traded a 2nd and 7th round pick to move up from 16 to 8 to draft Tavon Austin. Even gave Austin a 4 year 42 million dollar contract extension despite the kid never living up to his draft status and the expectations.
-Drafted a good player in Alec Ogletree in his 2nd draft. Gave him a long term extension then traded him 6 months after the extension.
-Blew the 2nd overall pick in his 3rd draft on Greg Robinson.
-Traded a 2nd round pick for Sammy Watkins then failed to get a LTD done and watched him walk after 1 year.
-Everyone is all impressed by his acquiring of Peters and Talib yet he had Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson and could not get LTD's done with either
-And for those that wish to say Shanny missed on Mahomes well Snead missed on Garoppolo and instead drafted Garrett Gilbert in the 6th round and trotted out Austin Davis and Shaun Hill as his QB's in 2014
-Kept Jeff Fisher as the HC well beyond the expiration date
Had that been a 49ers GM, there would be a lot of hate towards these miscues. There would also be long heated discussion about Goff vs Wentz that would still be ongoing and whether they took the better FQB.
But the grass is always greener elsewhere right ?
