Anyone watch ESPN's NFL Live today, they had the offseason winner so far, yep 49ers won it, of course I want to see it on the field, but still awesome to see the national media give us props when fans get upset that we didn't make a "splashy" move or overspend.

Awesome but I am surprised. I felt better once I learned that the team had a clear vision and plan and stuck to it. But it seemed to me the media had a real hard on over the Rams and their moves so I expected them to "win" the offseason. They get the "Splashy" Award this year along with the Browns. Let's hope with similar results.
For the 49ers, they clearly have a plan, I am interested to see what it looks like when it comes together.

We had the best, number one, most important signing of the off season. And second place isn't anywhere close.

Exactly. People who are quick to bash the 49ers for their FA signings completely ignore that move because it was done before FA opened...which was a terrific move.

We'll see how the other signings play out but getting Jimmy locked up long term was huge. If he was playing under the franchise tag you run the risk of having another Cousins situation.

Rams can have their splashy signings. Hopefully we kill this draft and take the division from them with our non flashy ways :)

For once I'm actually hearing our assistant coaches going out there and scouting their players. I don' t know if that even happened during the Baalke era. I think he tried to do it all himself.

Yeah, there were a lot of articles comming out after he left that basically said he was an arrogant SOB. I like the fact that the front office and coaching staff aren't so isolated, and actually are involved in selecting the players that they might be coaching.

There have been other GM's in the past that have been successful in running the show, Ron Wolf, as an example, but he was a great evaluator of talent. Bill Pollian worked with coaches that knew what they wanted and told him to get it.

Baalke got the coach that was a winner, and he basically didn't get along with the coach. Admittedly the guy he hired was hard to get along with, but as GM it's a big part of your job to get along and support your HC, not destroy him and stab him in the back. The dude was beyond stupid.

I loved the Graoppolo signing, that was a big accomplishment. The 49ers deserve all that off-season love for getting that deal done. Not easy to do as they made it look, and the free agent signings on offense and defense were good moves.

Now lets draft some defense, because it's defense that wins super bowls. I'm looking for the 49ers to go draft capital heavy on the edge rusher. Either a trade up or a trade down and invest two picks on that position. But that Jimmy signing alone made the offeseason an A+ in my book.

Agreed. Let's review.

QB Jimmy Garropolo - Easily, the biggest signing of the entire NFL this off season.
LB Mark Nzeocha, MIKE Brock Coyle & Korey Toomer - With Elijah Lee getting snaps last year (team was high on him) and Malcolm Smith coming back, an experienced veteran in Korey Toomer who's versed in this defense, this is quality depth.
ER Cassius Marsh & Jeremiah Attaocho - I love Marsh's motor and he started to come on for us late and you all know I had targeted Attaocho early...lots of upside there.
CB Richard Sherman - Prototype who has a chance to add as much off the field as on; coach on and off the field.
C Daniel Kilgore, C Weston Richburg, G Johnathan Cooper & T Gary Gilliam - Had no issues with the original signing of Kilgore and only had issues if we didn't try to upgrade. Clearly, they upgraded! Cooper replaces Fusco and Gilliam adds experienced depth in our system.
WR Marquise Goodwin - Excellent extension.
SAM Dekoda Watson & RB Raheem Mostert - Watson plays the SAM and adds a bit more ER compared to Eli but he's a better ST player and Mostert might be the best gunner in the league.

I'd still like to add a veteran CB in free agency and would have loved locking down Norwell or Sitton so we don't have to think about the interior protecting a FQB for years, but it is what it is now. Also, trades are the new black. We have a couple players worth trading. Ward's $8.5M hurts to sit on the bench (and he will) and we have to decide on Armstead's 5th year option by May. Let's see how that plays out.

I really liked what I saw from Mitchell on film. He reminded me a lot of Brandon Mebane from SEA. He was really disruptive in the run game and held the POA well. He's not in a position to get a lot of splash or fill up a stat sheet but does a lot of dirty work that helps the rest of the defense look good.

Well, of course in a slow season the media is going to cover any stories and bigger stories get more coverage. The Rams made some big time moves and so of course they were going to get covered. It's like when a big earthquake happens all the news outlets cover it non-stop for 3 days. But, then if they were to say, "what cities had the best year" Houston aint on that list this past year.
