Is that something to be proud of? We're Cleveland West. Constantly rebuilding, constantly looking for signs of improvement and hoping for a better future. Constantly a laughingstock to opposing fans. Just 3 years removed from Jed saying that we only hang Super Bowl banners.
Sad to see how many fans around here are ok with this and happy with our performance this year.
I think you are missing the point. The optimists aren't rationalizing losing because we accept losing. The optimists accept the fact that the last regime left us with nothing to build around... no up and coming qb, no WR prospects to develop, questionable cornerbacks to develop, an OL that people are calling out draft picks as busts (minus that we got really lucky with a 7th round dart throw) and questionable linebacker picks. All the pessimists compare this season to Harbaugh and his winning culture but much easier to have a winning culture when you have future hall of famers, probowlers and all pros in their prime like Alex Smith, Staley, Bowman, Willis, Crabtree, Vernon Davis, Iupati, J Smith.
What great players in their prime were inherited for this season? Bucker and Brown? Include Hyde and Robinson if you want to be ultra optimistic?
Fortunately, there are signs of new players to build around/with: Taylor, Kittle, Foster, Breida (feel like he has solidified himself at least as a change of pace/3rd down back), Tomlinson (probably too optimistic but really interested to see how he does after this season and an offseason in this system), Juice (maybe over-paid but position locked down for a while), Garcon (the veteran presence needed that will hopefully develop our future #1 that we get next year).
