Sorry but I just don't see it. Getting snaps at the role in case of emergency is completely different then being asked to chase an Edelman, Landry or Baldwin on a regular basis in this league. All of those guys can get open against specialized probowl nickel CB's and we are talking about putting a undrafted FS with 4.7 40 speed and a lack of man coverage experience on them?

"Lack of man coverage experience"? He covered the slot and more in college.

Hilarious you mention Landry. If you're going to base their speed off their 40 times, he's slower than Lorenzo Jerome. And the other two are barely faster on paper, which doesn't mean s**t to me--tape > everything.

If we keep a 4th TE then add Paulsen and take off Chris Jones.

You have one extra roster spot with Garnett most likely going on short term I.R. to start the season --- designation to return

Thought he was only suppose to miss one month? That puts him ready for game 1.

If not then maybe add Theus or Barnes to the OL.

On offense the only glaring difference is I have Logan Paulson making the team.

That's certainly a strong possibility! Hulikini could go to the PS and both Vance and him could be kept or there is a battle between Vance and Paulsen. The thing to consider is that cutting Paulsen would only cost $125K but Vance would need to prove he's as good as a blocker in this scheme and show something in the passing game.

I was under the impression Logan is a decent blocker. Also under the impression shanny likes to use 2 TEs.

Kyle loves 2 TE sets and blocking in this zone scheme is key. That's why he brought in Paulsen to begin with. Paulsen is a good blocker...but so is Vance. Paulsen adds next to nothing in the passing game and Vance can at least, give you a few explosive on plays. So if Vance can get close to being equal to Paulsen in blocking within this scheme, he'll win, esp. with that contract.
Paulson doesn't drop the ball. Paulson is also a better blocker and he knows the system. Paulson is also cheaper.

Our OW is also going to see snaps at TE when you consider reports that he's been uncover able in training camp. Not looking very good for vance or any of the TE holdovers from last season.

All good points. It's a legit battle indeed. The Niners will take a big $ hit if they drop Vance. But if this dude can't catch under Kyle, he's never going to catch. Ever.

This notion that we are going to go into the season with just one nickel back and a rookie undrafted FA FS with a lack of speed as the primary backup is what's laughable. Those are the kind of moves that get coaches fired. I don't think there is any chance in the world that this comes to fruition.

Williams is the nickel and Redmond is the backup but no doubt, they are giving Lorenzo a legit shot at backing Ward up.

OP was that Jerome was going to take Redmonds spot...

Thanks! Two days ago, Kyle said Ray-Ray moved to MIKE but now with the injury to Smith, I need to update.

Oh...my bad.

I see what he was saying too.

No, I said Jerome has been taking snaps implying depth behind K'Wuan and Ward.

Or did we forget Jimmie Ward can play the slot as well? The FS often rolls to a side and has slot responsibility in this scheme. It wouldn't be just K'Waun and Jerome.

Yeah, if they haven't worked Redmond outside yet, even with these injuries, and Jerome is being worked in at FS and nickel, that could be a bad sign for Redmond. They may be trying to work a guy like James on... another big hitting box SS.
