49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

The possible benefit is to light some fire into him and work harder. If you were the coach what would do to Joe Williams? Pat on the back and say "you're doing great!" Even tho he got beat by an UDFA? This ain't college football, this is the NFL...if Joe felt some type of way maybe he should show up this years TC fit and ready to go. Let's get real, Shanny ain't the first or will be the last to blast his player out in the media.

Exactly. At this point in their careers, Shanahan has all the leverage to have this conversation however he feels necessary. Joe Williams has a lot more to prove he deserves to be in the NFL.

I don't blame Shanahan if he's pissed. He went all in on Williams because he loved what he saw on the tape and Williams showed up and completely bombed.

This is going to be his next and final opportunity with the 49ers. Shanahan calling him out like that is to make sure this guy understands that he is going to be expected to get his s**t together or be gone.

I bet Shanny read that tweet Williams posted after McKinnon was signed lol.

What did the tweet say?
Sounds like when he talked about Joe Williams, Kyle said he can see some of things that Williams can do in preseason games but everything else in practice and preparation seemed lackadaisical. His indication to Williams is that there's going to be more competition this year and that he has to show more all around for the coaches to evaluate and choose who to keep. There will be more influx of talent this year. If the talent is close and the other guys shows more effort and desire even in practice, Williams might be gone or pushed further down the depth if he can't show the desire.

It's pretty honest and helpful to Williams in what Kyle will look for going into next year. Kyle is saying help me evaluate you better by showing more not just flashes. People are blowing s**t out of proportion much

Sounds like he's not done adding RB to the team. Gonna be a RB somewhere in the draft.

I loved the last part of that hour long interview. He talked about defense. Coaching the defense and how he was able to learn from one of the great defensive coaches in Kiffen, at an early stage in his career!
I'm 100% sure Joe Williams knows his status on the team. I like that Shanny seems to be holding himself accountable for what may have been a bad pick.

"I picked joe, he's not panning out, we've told him how he needs to improve".

For the first time in a while, the team is running smoothly enough that there isn't any "dirty laundry" to air.

These are all good things
Joe can do two things.

Step up or sit down.

Lots of insight...no B.S. He could probably talk like that all day long breaking only to eat.

Yup, and in the same breath, praising an undrafted free agent in Breida who came in and worked and got better and better.

I like that he said he goes to bat for all his picks but it doesn't guarantee anything once he gets here. There's no denying Joe's skill set and Kyle's clarified why he loved his film...now he's got a chance to beat some RB's out and prove his worth.

What? Lol. These guys get the privilege to play a game and get paid more than most Americans. If he can't take a coach being honest about him to the media, the kid is going to have to go get a real job.

Apparently he thinks an UDFA who missed OTAs and minicamp should be cradled with kid gloves or his feelings might get hurt

Probably wants to give him a "participation" trophy and worry about his self esteem.

It's not internal. We saw him s**t the bed in preseason and coach was saying he needed to be better in preseason.
Why do we get a sense with Kyle, in any one of these presser, that he's comfortable talking about each positions, because he knows what he wants out of each and every positions on the team.

The previous coaches seemed to hide what they don't know with condescension under the guise of not wanting to give away competitive advantage.

Notice the questions seemed smarter when the coach gave intelligent answers regardless of how stupid the question

I remember Haarbaalke, and how there was always leaks if some player didn't pan out, or if the offense or defense wasn't performing well. The ShanaLych marriage is working well. The couple is communicating and making sure they are on the same page. They are still in the honeymoon stage despite Joe Williams and Reubens DV.
