Yea, great, I hope you guys get your way and the whole team communicates through the media. Hopefully Joe Williams clears the air and tells the media that he doesn't lack urgency, and that part of the problem was that the team put him on IR for a phantom ankle injury in order to stash him which didn't allow for him to contribute.

I'm checking the twitter and this whole joe williams/kyle shanahan feud is blowing up. You are so right, now current players are tweeting about how ridiculous shanahans comments were.

oh wait no, no one is talking about this

I guess we're lucky that Williams has decided to be the bigger man and not air the team's dirty laundry in the media. Hopefully Shanahan learns from him instead of trying to deflect the blame for Williams no show last season through the media.

Damn, I read all these reactions to Shanahan calling out Williams so I had to go back and find out what was said. Wow was I disappointed, if this is calling someone out then we have become a country of weak people.

"I expect him to turn up his urgency level this year," Shanahan said of Williams. "I've talked to him about that. He said he has. I'm looking forward to seeing it"

He basically said "I told him that he has to want it, and he said he does. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do."

It was more 'rah rah' rooting for a guy he wants to succeed.

You've got people looking for any reason, real or made up to criticize the team. Shanahan did nothing wrong, he said nothing offensive, he simply stated the obvious. If Williams can't handle that level of criticism then his NFL career is going to be extremely short and forgettable.

Man we are going to have an outstanding RB group if Joe Williams just shows up and do what he can do on the football field. I'm an optimist and I think that's a very good possibility now that Joe knows his job is on the line with the McKinnon signing.
You are held accountable for your actions or lack of. They are all big boys and KS wasn't slinging mud. Sometimes I think I can tell which of you received trophies for last place growing up.

Sticks and stones boys.

Yea, I'm sure the players love Shanahan calling them out to the media.

So he should just waffle, or say nothing, or praise players that don't measure up?

What's the benefit of telling people outside of the organization that you aren't happy with a player's performance? I can appreciate Shanalynch's transparency regarding most things, but I think there are times when things should be kept internally. You would never see Belichick discuss the personal conversations he had with his players to the press.
But you would see Jimmy Johnson do it or Bill Parcells. There are different methods and they all can work.
Great hour long listen.

What? Lol. These guys get the privilege to play a game and get paid more than most Americans. If he can't take a coach being honest about him to the media, the kid is going to have to go get a real job.

Apparently he thinks an UDFA who missed OTAs and minicamp should be cradled with kid gloves or his feelings might get hurt

Probably wants to give him a "participation" trophy and worry about his self esteem.

Laughable. You guys have taken not wanting the HC to discuss internal matters with the media to mean I think players should be coddled. Again, what possible benefit is there to discussing these things with the media?
