What have I said that was so harsh? It would actually be reasonable if I stated he should be held accountable as if any other driver? But I haven't once said anything like that.

You implied he had intelligence lower than a teenager.
How many 46-year-olds do you know? I bet 9/10 of them look at their phone, or look down to change the radio, or look away to read a billboard, etc. every day they drive. People know they shouldn't, but they do anyway. Why? Because 99.9999999% of the time nothing happens. When something does happen it can be life altering, but people don't have actual good application of risk/reward scenarios, otherwise there would probably be a lower number than the 100 people dying in car accidents every day in this country.
I don't see what part of Kyle being a 10-year NFL HC makes him a better than average car driver. Those skill sets are rather mutually exclusive.
You do NOT take your eyes off the road and bend down, especially as you come to an intersection. (Different scenario) You don't do it when you are also close behind to someone. There are many scenarios where (and it's not even about being perfect) self preservation tells you I shouldn't do that, or hell stops you out right.
As far as what does a 10 year NFL HC have to do with it? Because over those 10 years I'm sure he has told his players to be careful when on the road. Especially after each time a NFL player crashes their car or kills someone.
There is a reason they're called accidents. Nobody wants to get into them. They happen for many reasons, some are by one driver doing something they should NOT do.
It still happens. We all have stuff going on. You get distracted by your kid, your phone, someone on the sidewalk, whatever...and you do something you would normally never do.
Literally had another car not been there or if maybe he didn't nudge his steering wheel while bending down it never gets to this level. I know i've had my close calls where i'm doing something I shouldn't but i look up in time to avoid any problems but a momentary lapse in judgment is not driving dangerously imo.

The pod he did with his dad yesterday talking about the meeting with Kyle was actually a really great watch.

The reality of it is there's millions of people driving every single day and phones are being used, dropped, picked up etc etc. I have two little ones that are constantly screaming about wanting this or that and I have to reach around or turn around to see what the problem is sometimes…..Is it the smartest thing you could do in that situation, no. the fact that you're trying so incredibly hard to make this scenario more sinister or something that you'd never dare do is ridiculous man. We all understand where your bias is.
live and learn, no one got seriously hurt. We as people should try to be the best we can in those situations, but at the end or the day we're just people and aren't perfect 24/7.

to me fundamentally and not saying this about coach but in general, it's similar to DUI. science, and you can look this up, if you are on your phone your reaction time is as if you were at or slightly beyond the legal limit. both choose to put their own convenience ahead of safety, with the idea of well nothing will happen to me because i have always done it with no problem and i am uniquely skilled at multitasking. i don't say this to shame coach, coach shamed himself and he has to wear it and he has done so taking the blame. i say this to help anyone out there reading, put the thing down. i drive to work i see a dozen ppl everyday on their devices you can tell cuz they eyes dart down to the screen and off the road, or you see someone in front of you drifting in and out of their lane, once you catch up to em they are on the phone every time. it's a DUI mindset, it doesn't have the societal stigma yet, but it's the same dang thing pretty much. and what are they even texting? it's a man asking hey honey do you want asparagus tonight, while driving, just the most dumbass texts one can imagine i would bet.

Seriously, don't look at your phones while driving. I bought a kindle so that I could read books during my commute without having to be distracted my phone.
