49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

2023 playoffs gives hope it'll get better with Brock at the helm.

The only real flaw in Kyle's record, and it's a big one is his W-L record when trailing by 7 or more at halftime. He hasn't shown that he can make adjustments when his teams fall behind. It's not all on him but as HC he has to acknowledge that he hasn't done well when trailing entering the 2nd half.

Ooh.....their coming.

Why are would anyone "come for him" . It's a valid point and he's not trolling or whining

Don't get behind don't have to come from behind. Now what's his record as a coach again? Good rule of thumb is if you've got Jimmy G Brian Hoyer or CJ Beathard as QB you'd best not get behind. I'll just hope we win more than we lose and not rely on last minute game winners

For those who watched that playoff we saw the 9ers trailing by 7 at halftime and in 4th quarter in games and came back.

Think the post is pretty self explanatory otherwise.

Forget that the plays were there to be made. A real HC would've known that his players wouldn't execute as designed on that play and call a different one!

Brilliant stuff.

And you wonder why people think you're trolling?

…says every coach who's QB hasn't gone 30/30 for 300 yards and 5 TDs every game. You know if Mahomes doesn't throw that INT in the 3rd and completes the pass maybe the Chiefs score a TD and the game doesn't go into overtime. But guess what? He did. And the head coach made adjustments to slow down our offense. And called plays for Mahomes to take advantage of our defense. Hey, Dre Greenlaw went down. Let's pick on the weak link at LB. Good call on Reid's part. Meanwhile, Kyle does not adjust to KC's defense. All of a sudden they bring the pressure and Kyle doesn't have the play calls for his young inexperienced QB to outlet. But you would never blame Kyle for that. It's all Purdy's fault for missing on that 3rd down blitz. And Burford for missing the block on Jones. And of course the greatest defense of them all….Kyle made the right decision to take the ball in OT.

So coming back from 7 down in the 4th vs GB doesn't matter because he wasn't trailing at halftime? A very weird perspective to take.

Was down 3 points late in 4th vs Bears too. They won.

The right QB makes a difference.

He has 1 win.....

that stat is super wonky....

in the 2023 playoffs alone

the Niners were down by 7 going in the 4th qtr vs GB and won
the Niners were down by 17 at half vs DET and won
[ Edited by boast on Jan 10, 2026 at 12:08 PM ]
that stat doesn't take into account if the Niners were down by 7+ AFTER the half and came back.

so that specific stat is worthless.

Coaches don't make plays on the field.

In general the "down 7" is not great for most coaches. I believe Andy Reid with Mahomes had the best record recently and it was still well below .500 if I recall correctly.

But yes we all understand this scheme is not at its best when we have to throw the ball. In part due to limitations at QB(less so with Brock but still there) and in part due to OL to run Kyle's offense doesn't do as well when in obvious pass downs.

It's a valid concern…one way to counter it, don't be down by 7+ 🤷‍♂?
