Shanny COMEDY !!

You're just making up stuff.
He sort of is, sort of isn't. As usual he's taking multiple things and exaggerating them to suit his agenda.
NOT making up stuff... he thought he was raw... and that Bobby's grandson was more ready... it's actually SAD, he saw everything on Mahomes but just decided that it's not for the team.. DIDN'T even make any sense..
MIAMI -- Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch had a chance to draft Patrick Mahomes in 2017 and decided against it.
It's more complex than a simple "pass," though.
For one, the 49ers weren't entirely sold on Mahomes. Shanahan had interacted with the quarterback at the NFL Scouting Combine, but the team wasn't certain he'd prove worthy of the second pick in the draft.
"I didn't look into him obviously as much as I should have," Shanahan said Tuesday. "We definitely looked into him, studied all of his tape. Was just a freak, could make any throw, had the ability to do anything. That was a little bit different situation for us. We had the second pick in the draft, did not feel like from all the intel that you get and stuff that he was gonna go that high."
There was another factor: Kirk Cousins' impending free agency. Shanahan had a strong familiarity with the quarterback from his time as offensive coordinator in Washington, and he had an eye on the signal-caller with the 2018 free-agency period just a season away.
THE QUESTION IS... if he wanted KIRK so badly, why did he trade for him and give up the ranch the way he did w/Lance??
OHHHH, suddenly he saw too much PAT on Lance??
You're 100% making up the fact that 49ers passed on Mahomes because they were going to take Beathard.
It's exhausting dealing with you hindsight crowd. If you're going to use hindsight then at least be honest with it.
Yes Shanahan thought Mahomes wasn't worth #2 overall and guess what technically he was 100% right. Not only did Mahomes not go #2 overall when the Chiefs selected him at #10 overall the Chiefs GM and coaches got a ton of flack for taking him that high.
Sure with the hindsight we all have Mahomes would've gone #1 overall to Cleveland and we would've had to be content with that Myles Garrett guy falling to us.
Beathard was never drafted to be a plug and play starter. Yes he was more ready to run Kyle Shanahan's offense because that's the type of offense Iowa ran. There were a lot of questions about the offense Mahomes ran due to other Kingsbury failures who had huge numbers in college and did nothing in the pros.
Mahomes himself talks about how he wasn't ready. There is a reason he didn't start as a rookie. He has talked on many occasions how he needed to sit and learn from a guy like Alex Smith. He didn't even learn how to read defenses until middle of his 3rd season in the NFL.
There is no question that Shanahan was right about him in that regard but a huge miss on the evaluation in what he can grow into.
You and Ell, etc, will die on this hill but can't be bothered to realize the situations for Shanahan and Andy Reid were wildly different at the time.
Shanahan was a first time NFL HC who came in for his system. His goal was to bring in a QB who he knew could run his system. Investing the #2 overall pick on a QB who you aren't sure can run that system is a MAJOR gamble. Andy Reid was a long time NFL HC who already had a playoff team with a solid vet QB. He wanted to swing for the fences with a toolsy guy he could develop.
Shanahan takes Mahomes #2 overall and he has to start him. You're not sitting a top 2 pick at QB behind a Brian Hoyer or Matt Barkley. Who knows what Mahomes looks like without the development he got by sitting and learning behind Alex Smith. Heck we don't have to go far to find out what happens when you rush an early pick without a great vet QB behind him...in Alex Smith.
That's why Kyle was able to make the move for Lance after being vested and having a SB appearance to show for it. You can make those swings when you've proven yourself as a HC and try to push your offense to those extra special levels. And he didn't go for Cousins then because he was under contract...
We have no way of knowing what would've actually happened had the Jimmy G opportunity not arrived. For all we know we could've had a couple of SB trophies right now with Cousins. That's a hypothetical we'll never know. Just like we don't know what would've happened had we drafted Mahomes and asked him to run Shanahan's offense.
