Actually, I don't think we were that stubborn. No one wanted to give much for Kap. And if you remember, at that time we would have had to pay him if we released him.

Okay, I know this has turned into a can of worms in terms of hypotheticals, but would FA's actually want to come here if we could somehow land Cousins?

It's funny. I'm guilty of this too but it's weird that we don't want to give up a high pick for a proven player so that we could draft a player that hasn't proved they belong in the league yet.

Ya, Denver basically asked us to pay for half his contract. Too bad our owner is so money hungry that he rather save some money than get that 4th round pick they offered. But he's all about winning.

Yeah, it's true, some teams you have to pry a draft pick away even if it's a 4th/5th round.

Build it and they will come... Cousins is a good start.

I think free agents would want to come to SF because of Shanahan and John Lynch. IMO

I hope that Slynch make a habit of drafting one QB a year or every other year to develop for trade or to upgrade the starter and/or backup positions. Not that every project will mature and become an NFL QB but every other one or third or fourth. That would be an incredible luxury for the Niners if Shanahan is able to do that on a fairly regular basis.

Wow, so many things wrong with this post...
- What teams pay half the salary of a player they just traded away? Is this normal? If not, why is Jed to blame?
- Pretty obvious at this point that Baalke has been calling the shots. Refer back to the Tomsula/Gase hiring.
- Jed is money hungry? He's paying the salaries of 4 HCs right now because of admitting he f**ked up.
- Jed is money hungry? He has 6 year deals for Lynch and Shanahan.

Yeah, despite public opinion, Jed is not cheap.

Philly paid $11 million of Bradford's contract in that trade...but they also got much better value then a 4th lol. One thing people forget in that whole thing was Denver didn't even have a 4th to trade at the time lol. They never wanted kap.

That's fine, until we shoot ourselves in the foot over it.
Agree. There is no hurry to get a FQB and certainly no reason to give up what other team have for a high draft pick. Cousins is in control of his future and can wait until next year to join Shanahan if they have a close relationship. That will give SF a year to improve skill positions and firm up the OL.
I'm wondering if a team will try to trade up with Cleveland so they can get their QB. If so Garrett will be available to SF, which would be great! So many options it will be a fun FA period and draft.

Would you take Kirk this season for a 2nd and conditional pick next yr though? I would...Washington might be forced to settle for something like that if they no he's not resigning next yr, might as well get something instead of a comp third in 2019 ya know.

Probably! I might even trade back to regain a second and take a top player at a position of need--RB, WR, ILB. If Garrett is gone. Getting your QB and an elite player with your first pick is a good deal. Say going from the 2nd pick to #8 for a second and take WR Williams with the first, trade our second for Cousins and then take an ILB with the new second.
