What is the highest the conditional pick you would go if Cousins played lights out in SF after a trade like that? Would people go for a 2nd this year and if Cousins played really well then give up a 1st next year as the conditional pick? That would be richer than I would want to go, but if Shanahan really wants Cousins and is afraid he might not be able to snag him as a FA next year, then I would be okay with it. From Washington's point of view I can see them going for a 2nd this year and a potential 1st next year (since there's a reasonably good chance that Cousins would perform well under Shanahan and the 1st would probably still be at least a mid-rounder). I could see them taking that deal and then trading two 2nd rounders to NE for JG so that they have a good QB prospect to go with this year. That could conceivably be the best outcome they could get out of this situation.

I like Cousins a lot as a QB, but given what he has to work with in terms of pass targets does anyone wonder why hasn't he done more?

I think they will already want to come here with the ShanaLynch addition

Getting your QB and an elite player with your first pick is a good deal. Say going from the 2nd pick to #8 for a second and take WR Williams with the first, trade our second for Cousins and then take an ILB with the new second.
Yeah I think it's something that could be very realistic.

Lol what? He was like less than 100 yards short of throwing for 5,000 yards...you do know there's only been 5 qbs in the history of the NFL to do that right?

If Lynch is smart, Washington gets nothing. Cousins played out his contract in 2015. Washington doesn't own him. Either Cousins is a free agent this year, or next year if they want to tag him for by far the highest paid player in the history of the league and ensuring him for only one year as he must then be a free agent next March. They must move on. They don't have an option.
I wanted to trade for Cousins when Shanahan was forced to play RGIII to much ridicule on this board. Kyle literally stood on the table wanting to start Kirk. Kyle and Kirk are friends. Kyle is the best offensive mind in the league. Kirk is not going to want to go to Chicago, or Cleveland, or anyplace else, not knowing how he would be treated in the future, when he can come here. This is his first contract since his rookie contract, and will be the one that defines his career. He won't compromise after taking such a firm stand against Washington to get his freedom. He won't stop, and he will go where he wants. You like that!
There is no reason on God's green earth Washington should be rewarded with anything, and I know Cousins feels the same way. He feels mistreated, and it won't happen again.

Actually, I don't think we were that stubborn. No one wanted to give much for Kap. And if you remember, at that time we would have had to pay him if we released him.
Ya, Denver basically asked us to pay for half his contract. Too bad our owner is so money hungry that he rather save some money than get that 4th round pick they offered. But he's all about winning.
Whatever. Their offer was crap. Spin it anyway you want, but the truth is that Kap would have had to sign a reduced contract for Denver to make the deal and he wouldn't ok that. So there was no deal. As many screw ups as the old FO made you can't put that one completely on them. No one wanted to give drafts picks and pay him. And I don't blame them. They can get him free now, and let's see if anyone still wants to pay for him. I doubt he get 50% of what he made last year. So again, how were we stubborn? When no one wants what you have for trade, you can't force them.

I'm pretty sure Denver didn't even have a 4th rd draft pick when they were talking about a "trade" anyway lol...they never wanted kap

Exactly. No one really wanted him. And he will be hard pressed to get a starting job in a league desperate for QB's.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said he is not looking for a "short-term fix" at quarterback.
"You want to make a commitment to somebody," Shanahan said. "In order to do that, you better make sure you're on the same page with everyone else and you put the time in, you talk to people who've been with these guys." These comments would seem to shoot down reports of Matt Schaub and Brian Hoyer being options, but those guys will be nothing but bridge quarterbacks at best. The 49ers could commit to an early-round pick like UNC's Mitch Trubisky and still have him compete with a veteran in camp. With little chance of winning right now, that might even be the best option.

Yeah he's on his last legs as a starter and all his off field stuff right or wrong doesn't help him imo

The only reason he reached out to the Niners is that his agent was telling him he can't find Any team interested in taking on his political shenanigans. I think we're his last hope to stay in the league.
