Jed wants to have dinner with Jim.

There is every reason, you would think, for Jed York to remain deep in the background, send atta-boys to John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan for their draft savvy, give everybody some time to forget the last two seasons, and more than anything, just avoid the name, likeness, reputation and concept of Jim Harbaugh.
Make money. Watch Lynch and Shanahan reshape the 49ers. Accept the praise. Be quiet. It's going well!

Not that. Just don't do that, Jed. That's awkward. That's over-bearing. That's reminiscent of all the dumb, transparent stuff that used to drive Harbaugh crazy from 2011-2014.
Don't do it, Jed.
Oops, too late.
Against the backdrop of everything that the 49ers CEO/owner has fouled up in the last few years–since firing Harbaugh in December 2014 and doing so much to try to tarnish Harbaugh's 49ers legacy–these last few months have actually been a good and peaceful time in 49ersland.
York hired Lynch as general manager and Shanahan as coach in January, then let Lynch step forward as the face and voice of the franchise.
These have been productive, thoughtful, un-York-ian months, culminating in an exceptionally well-run draft and a wave of positive vibrations.
But York couldn't let all of that speak for itself. Nope, once the draft was over, he had to elbow Lynch aside, race back out onto the public stage for a national media tour, and utter at least one strikingly daffy thing.
York made an appearance on the NFL Network's morning show on Wednesday morning, which was enough to make many 49ers fans cringe.

When they were in Tampa2 coverage, there's no way a safety can play in the box unless it's some sort of inverted look (safety covers underneath zone, CB playing a deep zone). I can't imagine that happening very often. Maybe it was on occasion that Lynch was brought into the box.

The guy looks like Jack Reynolds, man no wonder Dungy had him playing in the box.
I know, everything I've read online about the Tampa 2 says so, but in this book he gave a seminar article on his Tampa 2 defense and he had Lynch be playing in the box. I've looked everywhere for a accessible article for the Webzone members but non are available, oh well, might take a trip to the library and refresh my memory to see if it's still there.
Here's Ronnie Lott talking about how the role of a Tampa2 safety (Lynch) doesn't allow for much flexibility in assignments.
Below are snippets: http://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/230567/ronnie-lott-tampa-2-role-made-hall-vote-difficult-for-john-lynch
"For John, people won't necessarily see all the things that he could possibly do because the Tampa 2 didn't allow him to use all of his skills," Lott said.
"He was able to have moments where he showed flashes of, 'Wow, he made that play in a Tampa-2 deep position and he was able to make a play on the line of scrimmage or he was able to make a play on the outside when the ball is in the air and other safeties couldn't get there."
"But the Tampa 2 defense, it doesn't give you the creativity to have a safety that's blitzing. So all a sudden you look at his stats and you think, 'Why didn't he have quarterback sacks?' That's not his fault."
I looked really hard for it at my local library and even re-read the book defensive football strategies (he isn't in it) so most likely I misremembered or the book does not exist. Anyway, I couldn't find it. I'll defer to you regarding Lynch's role in the Tampa 2 since I may have misremembered it or confusing it with another coach. Maybe Monte Kiffin

As long as Jed stays by the wayside and lets this happen, we should be alright.
So very very very true!

Excellent! This perfectly illustrates what I think of the 49er ownership.
Little Photoshop I did back in the day.

Nice!
Two years of HELL!
I agree. It was a painful two years. Now, hopefully we've turned the corner - I still don't trust Jed though. He has to be pretty much a perfect owner for the next couple of years for me to trust ownership again.

I see this year being like 2010.. no clear cut dominant team and 9-7 probably wins it.

The more I look at Lynch's first draft, the more impressed I am - the collective group of draftees, the trades, gaining picks for next year, and just the overall plan/organization of it all. But I'm also impressed at how collaborative he's made it with Shanahan, Peters, Mayhew, etc. Lynch is showing how smart he is in the approach he's taken in being a first-time GM - you can see he doesn't think he knows it all just because he played at an almost Hall of Fame level as he's surrounded himself with top personnel who are strong, experienced NFL front office people. I also like how well-connected he is around the league, how he establishes and keeps strong relationships, how he carries himself with the media, etc. Will only bode well for the future as he continues to learn the ins-and-outs of the GM role.

I'll take the Niners going 9-7 in Shanahan's first year and winning the NFC West!

Plus we got another extra second and third to maximize this draft and next year's.
